What Is Data Governance Framework?
Data is like a river. It flows down a channel, and you can put up dams to stop its progress or redirect it in a new direction. It will keep flowing if you don't do something about its source and eventually overflow your banks. A data governance framework establishes the standards and procedures for dealing with enterprise data. A data governance framework establishes standards and practices for creating and manipulating data and sets the rules and guidelines for business and management activities. The goal is to protect your data from getting into the wrong hands while allowing it to flow through channels where it can be used effectively. Data governance ensures that your data is correct, complete and accessible. It's like an extensive checklist for your data. You can use it to ensure that you're using up-to-date data, that all your data is in one place and that it's being used correctly. You might think about what information you need to collect for a project or who has permission for what information. Is it all being stored in one place? Is everyone using the exact version of the software? Do you know where everything is? Data governance helps you answer these questions by organizing all your data into a system with clear rules about how different types of information should be managed (such as who can access what). Data management is the beginning of a better business. It's not the end. Big data is changing how we do business, and it's not just about how we store information or where that information lives. It's also about how we use it. Big data can help communities make better decisions, but only if they can promptly get the information they need and with as few inconsistencies as possible. As when you're trying to make decisions based on incomplete or inaccurate data, you'll lose—even if your competitor uses old-fashioned methods like pencil and paper!
