YouTube is increasing subscription prices for YouTube Premium and YouTube Music in the U.S., according to TechCrunch. The change affects both new and current subscribers, and YouTube says existing members will be notified by email at least 30 days before their updated price takes effect.

TL;DR

  • YouTube Premium individual rises from $13.99 to $15.99 per month.
  • YouTube Premium family rises from $22.99 to $26.99, while Premium Lite goes from $7.99 to $8.99.
  • YouTube Music individual rises from $10.99 to $11.99, and the family plan from $16.99 to $18.99.
  • YouTube says this is its first U.S. YouTube Premium price update since 2023.

TechCrunch reported on April 10, 2026, that YouTube is raising U.S. prices for both YouTube Premium and YouTube Music. The updated monthly price for the standard YouTube Premium individual plan is $15.99, up from $13.99. The family plan is moving to $26.99 from $22.99. YouTube Premium Lite, the lower-cost option that removes ads from most videos but excludes songs and music videos, is increasing to $8.99 from $7.99.

The YouTube Music standalone plan is also getting pricier. Its individual tier is increasing from $10.99 to $11.99 per month, while the family plan is going from $16.99 to $18.99 per month. TechCrunch said the increases apply to both new and existing subscribers. YouTube’s own help documentation says users are notified by email at least 30 days ahead of a price increase, and that existing members are charged the new rate in the first billing cycle that occurs at least 30 days after the increase.

In a statement to TechCrunch, a YouTube spokesperson said, “We’re updating the price for YouTube Premium plans in the US for the first time since 2023 to continue delivering a high-quality experience that supports creators and artists on YouTube.” The spokesperson added that the company wants to maintain the features members use most, including ad-free viewing, background play, and a massive library of over 300 million tracks on YouTube Music.

This is not the first recent pricing change for YouTube’s subscription products. In July 2023, YouTube Premium’s monthly U.S. price rose from $11.99 to $13.99, while YouTube Music increased from $9.99 to $10.99.

The price update comes as YouTube continues to grow its paid subscriber base. In March 2025, YouTube said it had reached 125 million YouTube Music and Premium subscribers globally, including trials. Earlier this year, Alphabet reported it had 325 million paying users across Google One and YouTube Premium combined in the fourth quarter.
