Nikita Bier has stepped down as X’s Head of Product after 13 months, moving into an advisory role after overseeing nearly 30 product launches and major rebuilds across the social media platform’s core services.

Nikita Bier Steps Back From X Product Leadership

“Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to pass the torch,” Bier wrote in a post on X announcing his departure from the leadership role.

Bier said he would return to his “natural state: a poster” while continuing to advise the company. He described running X as a round-the-clock responsibility and said it was time to take a breather.

TechCrunch and Yahoo Finance reported that Bier had led product at X for a little more than a year after joining the company in July 2025. The Verge placed his tenure at approximately 13 months, while Firstpost framed the departure against the wider overhaul conducted across the platform during that period.

X Launched Nearly 30 Products During Bier’s Tenure

In his departure post, Bier said X launched nearly 30 products while he led the division. He also claimed the platform had recorded continued growth in users and engagement and climbed 70 positions in the App Store compared with the previous year.

According to The Verge, Bier said “almost every aspect of X” had been rebuilt, including its timeline, Android application, chat service and notification system. Other reported changes included updates to onboarding and the rollout of products such as X Money.

The user growth, engagement and App Store figures were presented by Bier and have not been independently verified in the reports reviewed.

Who Will Lead Product At X Next?

X has not announced a single direct replacement for Bier. However, he highlighted Benji Taylor, Mridul Singhai and Jonah Katz as leaders who would continue steering the platform’s product and design work.

The Verge reported that Taylor would lead design, while Singhai and Katz would hold key responsibilities across the product team and iOS development.

 

Elon Musk responded to Bier’s announcement by thanking him for helping make the platform “much better,” adding that he would be missed.

Bier previously co-founded the social applications tbh and Gas, which were acquired by Meta and Discord, respectively. He later became a venture partner at Lightspeed before taking over X’s product division.

His continued advisory role means he is not making a complete departure from X. However, neither Bier nor the company has disclosed the scope of his advisory responsibilities or whether X intends to appoint another executive as its formal Head of Product.
