Overall Rating
Reddit is preparing to step up acquisitions, with AdTech and artificial intelligence (AI) remaining a proven focus but not the only area under consideration.

Strong earnings, rising user growth, and expanding AI initiatives—including AI search—are giving the company room to pursue tuck-in deals that strengthen monetization and platform capabilities.

TL;DR

  • Reddit signaled plans to pursue more acquisitions, particularly in AdTech, but says no category is off the table.
  • Leadership emphasized acquiring proven capabilities that can scale across Reddit’s user base.
  • Q4 results showed $726 million in revenue, driven largely by advertising.
  • Past tuck-in acquisitions have helped Reddit improve monetization speed and efficiency.

Reddit Signals Renewed M&A Momentum Following Strong Q4 Performance

Reddit confirmed during its fourth-quarter earnings call that it is actively looking for more mergers and acquisitions (M&A), building on a strategy that has already played a significant role in its growth.

CFO Andrew Vollero told analysts that the company is evaluating businesses whose products become more effective when deployed across Reddit’s scale or that can directly contribute to user growth.

“[We’re] looking to buy capabilities, technologies, and companies,” Vollero said during his opening remarks.

He framed acquisitions as a way to accelerate execution rather than relying solely on in-house development, a theme that resurfaced repeatedly throughout the call.

The company’s financial performance in the quarter provided the backdrop for this confidence. Reddit reported $726 million in revenue, with $690 million coming from advertising.

Global daily active unique users climbed 19% year over year to 121.4 million, while earnings per share of $1.24 exceeded expectations.

Why AdTech Remains Central To Reddit’s Acquisition Strategy

During the Q&A portion of the call, investors pressed for clarity around what Reddit considers “scaled opportunities.” Vollero cautioned against reading too narrowly into the term.

“I probably wouldn’t overthink the scaled opportunities. I would just look at it as sort of a spectrum of opportunities,” he said, adding that the company remains focused on acquiring technologies that add tangible value to its core business.

AdTech has been a particularly successful area for Reddit in the past. Vollero pointed to the company’s ability to integrate acquired technologies quietly and efficiently, describing this tuck-in approach as a competitive advantage.

“It’s really been one of the secrets of our success,” he said. He also noted that buying proven tools rather than building from scratch has helped Reddit move faster in improving monetization as an ad-supported platform.

“Saves us six months to market, saves us twelve months to market, and you have a proven product,” Vollero added.

AI Investments Expand The Scope Of Potential Deals

While AdTech has delivered results, Reddit made clear it is not limiting itself to one category. Vollero said the company is “not ruling anything off the table,” particularly when acquisitions can deliver meaningful impact at Reddit’s scale.

That openness comes as Reddit continues to increase its investments in artificial intelligence, including its AI-powered search product. The company acknowledged a growing opportunity to generate revenue from AI search in the future, raising questions about whether this area could also factor into future M&A activity.

Reddit has prior experience acquiring AI-focused startups. In August 2024, it acquired Memorable AI to enhance advertising tools.

Earlier acquisitions included AI platform Spell to boost machine learning infrastructure, Spiketrap for improved ad targeting and contextual intelligence, Oterlu for machine-learning-driven moderation, and MeaningCloud to strengthen text analytics.

What Reddit’s Acquisition Playbook Suggests Going Forward

The Reddit Management’s emphasis on proven products and fast integration suggests Reddit will continue favoring smaller, lower-profile acquisitions that improve performance without disrupting the user experience.

The company’s history of embedding technology behind the scenes has allowed it to upgrade monetization and infrastructure while preserving community dynamics.

With strong earnings, accelerating user growth, and expanding AI ambitions, Reddit appears positioned to pursue frequent, focused deals aimed at enhancing yield and efficiency rather than chasing headline-grabbing acquisitions.
