What’s New In Google’s Pixel Update?

Google’s latest Pixel Feature Drop brings smarter notifications, AI-powered photo remixing, and battery-saving Maps mode to extend your phone’s life.

The battery-saving Maps mode dims the screen and shows only essential navigation info, helping Pixel 10 users save up to four additional hours of battery life.

Notification Summaries, debuting on Pixel 9 and newer models, condense long conversations into short snippets, like Apple’s “Priority Notifications.”


A feature coming in December will silence low-priority alerts, minimizing digital noise for users on the go.

The update expands Gemini Nano-powered scam detection beyond the U.S., now covering users in the U.K., Ireland, India, Australia, and Canada.

Users will also spot a new “Likely a scam” button within message notifications, helping identify suspicious texts before they become headaches.

The Remix feature, by Google’s Nano Banana image model, lets users reimagine photos through prompts, such as “make this a comic book scene” or “turn this into a Renaissance portrait.” The feature is live in the U.S., U.K., India, Canada, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand for RCS users.

The Pixel VIPs widget, first launched in June, now displays crisis badges for contacts in affected regions, a small but meaningful addition to safety alerts.

Other highlights include the expansion of the Call Notes transcription feature to Australia, Canada, the U.K., Ireland and Japan and a themed “Wicked: For Good” pack inspired by the film, complete with wallpapers, icons and system sounds.

What’s New In Google Photos?

Using AI-powered photo editing tools, users can type or say prompts like “open my eyes” or “remove sunglasses”—thanks to face group recognition technology.


The new “Help me edit” button personalizes edits for individuals in a photo and makes it easier to perfect group shots with a single command.

The update adds AI templates that transform photos into new creative styles, such as think action figures and retro portraits or comic strips by using the Nano Banana model.

A redesigned Ask button acts as a conversational hub, letting users get information about photos, find related memories or request edits through prompts.

AI-powered photo search is expanding from the U.S. to over 100 countries, including India, Japan, Brazil, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and South Africa, supporting 17 new languages such as Arabic, Hindi, French, German and Japanese.

Google also rolled out its redesigned photo editor to iOS users, bringing Android’s simplified layout and AI tools to Apple devices for the first time.

While Google’s busy teaching AI to perfect your selfies, OpenAI just got schooled in Germany for what its AI might have learned a little too well.
 

OpenAI Faces Copyright Challenge In Germany

A court in Munich said ChatGPT broke copyright by using lyrics from nine songs, including hits by musician Herbert Grönemeyer.

The lawsuit, filed by Germany’s music rights society (GEMA), claimed that OpenAI trained its language models on copyrighted material without authorization.

The court decided that the memorization and reproduction of lyrics by the AI model constituted a copyright infringement, ordering OpenAI to pay damages.

OpenAI argued its model doesn’t store exact data but “learns” from patterns. However, the court ruled this still qualifies as unauthorized use of creative works.

GEMA’s CEO, Tobias Holzmueller, stated, “The internet is not a self-service store—human creative achievements are not free templates.”

The decision could set a legal precedent across Europe, influencing how AI companies handle copyrighted data in model training.

An OpenAI spokesperson responded, “We disagree with the ruling and are considering next steps. The decision affects only a limited set of lyrics and does not impact our millions of users in Germany.”

This ruling comes amid lawsuits worldwide against AI companies by music labels and artists, including cases in India and the U.S., highlighting debates over AI and copyright.
