OpenAI To Boost Shopping With Instacart & Push AI In Europe With Deutsche Telekom

OpenAI and Instacart announced an expansion of their partnership, which will include the two bringing the first fully integrated grocery shopping and Instant Checkout payment app to ChatGPT.

This will allow users to go from “meal inspiration to doorstep delivery” without leaving their conversation.

The integration will also rope in Instacart’s real-time grocery network and fulfillment capabilities, courtesy of OpenAI’s frontier models. It marks the first app to offer a checkout experience directly within ChatGPT.

“Instacart and ChatGPT are redefining what’s possible in AI-powered shopping,” said Anirban Kundu, Chief Technology Officer at Instacart.

“Built on Agentic Commerce Protocol, this experience brings intelligent, real-time support to one of the most essential parts of daily life: getting groceries to feed your family. Together, we’re creating a seamless and secure way for people to turn simple conversations into real-world action—helping customers go from inspiration to a full cart delivered from the store to their door with ease.”

OpenAI provided an example of this new shopping experience: Users will be able to ask ChatGPT, “Help me shop for apple pie ingredients on Instacart,” and it will surface the Instacart app.

Even ChatGPT will suggest the app when users mention food, recipes, or meal ideas.

Through ChatGPT conversations, the Instacart app will find the right items from local retailers and add them to the cart, ready for users to check out.

“It’s another step toward bringing our vision to life—where AI delivers helpful suggestions and connects directly to real-world services, saving people time and effort in their everyday lives,” said Nick Turley, VP, Head of ChatGPT. 

The move builds on a previous partnership between the two, which includes Instacart being an early contributor in the OpenAI Operator research preview. Instacart also uses ChatGPT Enterprise and its APIs.


Outside the United States, OpenAI is looking to bring its advanced capabilities to millions of Deutsche Telekom users in Europe through a newly announced collaboration.

Deutsche Telekom commands a user base of over 261 million users globally.

The idea is to enable Deutsche Telekom to create simple, multilingual, and secure AI experiences for people to communicate, learn, and complete tasks.

The capabilities are expected to roll out in 2026.

Ahead of this, Deutsche Telekom will introduce ChatGPT Enterprise across the company and use AI more deeply in network operations and employee copilots as it moves to more autonomous, self-optimizing systems. 

OpenAI remains the leader of the artificial intelligence (AI) sector with more than 800 million weekly ChatGPT users, which are expected to benefit businesses such as Instacart, Deutsche Telekom, and a host of other leading names, including Accenture, Walmart⁠, Salesforce, PayPal⁠, Intuit, Target, Thermo Fisher⁠, BNY⁠, Morgan Stanley, BBVA, and more.

At the same time, these moves come as OpenAI released its first State of Enterprise AI report, which found that the AI leader witnessed phenomenal growth in the enterprise AI sector, amid mounting pressure from sector leader Anthropic and Google.
