As the race intensifies in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry to provide the most advanced, capable and cost-effective generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools, leading companies are consistently upgrading their products.

In this regard, OpenAI announced a series of updates made to its products, including the launch of its new GPT-4o mini model as well as compliance and administrative tools for its ChatGPT Enterprise users.

So, what new features and capabilities is OpenAI bringing to its users? Let’s explore!

What Is OpenAI’s GPT-4o Mini About?

  • Through a blog post published on its website, OpenAI announced the launch of GPT-4o mini, its most cost-efficient small generative AI model.

  • GPT-4o mini is now available as a text and vision model in the Assistants API, Chat Completions API, and Batch API. OpenAI also plans to roll out fine tuning soon.

  • ChatGPT, Free, Plus and Team users can access the model now, as it replaces GPT-3.5 and Enterprise users will be able to use the model next week.

  • Currently, the model is priced at 15 cents per million input tokens and 60 cents per million output tokens, an amount that’s 60% cheaper than GPT-3.5 Turbo.

  • As per tests conducted by the company on various academic benchmarks, GPT-4o mini outshines GPT-3.5 and other small models across both textual intelligence and multimodal reasoning.

  • The company expects the model to boost AI-powered application development as it makes intelligence more affordable.

  • The model supports text and vision in the API, while support for text, image, video and audio inputs and outputs will be available in the future.

  • OpenAI fortified the model as the model comes with safety built in from the beginning and is reinforced at every step of its development process.

  • This includes removing content such as hate speech, adult content, personal information aggregating sites and spam in pre-training and enhancing it with reinforcement learning with human feedback (RLHF) in post training.

  • Furthermore, the model has the same safety mitigations as GPT-4o, which included over 70 external experts assessing the tool for potential risks.

  • [Contd.] “The future of AI is becoming more accessible, reliable, and embedded in our daily digital experiences, and we’re excited to continue to lead the way.”

What Is OpenAI’s New Compliance And Administrative Tools For ChatGPT Enterprise About?

  • Through a blog post published on its website on the same day, OpenAI announced the launch of new tools to support its ChatGPT Enterprise users.

  • The company launched its Enterprise edition just under a year ago, a product that was hailed by global organizations such as the Boston Consulting Group, PwC, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Moderna, Lowe’s, BBVA, Western & Southern Financial Group and others.

  • ChatGPT Enterprise allows them to “securely enable their workforce with AI.”

  • The new tools launched by OpenAI will support its Enterprise customers with managing their compliance programs, enhancing data security and securely scaling user access.

  • The new Enterprise Compliance API comes along with eight other integrations developed by leading eDiscovery and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) companies and will help users in highly regulated industries such as finance, healthcare, legal services and government.

  • The companies involved in the development of the integrations include Forcepoint, Global Relay, Microsoft Purview, Netskope, Palo Alto Networks, Relativity, Smarsh and Zscaler.

  • It will help users with regulations like FINRA, HIPAA, and GDPR and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) services for PII, PHI and financial data.

  • In the coming days, the company plans to roll out SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management).

  • Ahead of this, Enterprise users will gain access to group permissions, comprehensive GPT settings and third-party GPT controls.
