A blockchain analysis has put fresh numbers behind the $TRUMP memecoin fallout: nearly one million wallets were in the red by the end of June, while President Donald Trump reported $636 million in income linked to the same token.

TL;DR

  • Nearly 988,905 $TRUMP wallets showed losses by the end of June.
  • Investor losses totaled about $3.81 billion, according to Nansen’s analysis.
  • Trump reported $636 million in income linked to the memecoin.
  • $TRUMP has fallen about 97% to 98% from its January 2025 peak.

How Did Trump’s $TRUMP Memecoin Create A $3.8 Billion Investor Loss?

A cryptocurrency that carried President Donald Trump’s name has turned into a brutal lesson for many retail buyers.

According to blockchain analytics firm Nansen, nearly one million investors who bought the $TRUMP memecoin collectively lost about $3.81 billion by the end of June. The analysis found that 988,905 wallets were at a loss, representing roughly two out of every three buyers.

The token’s fall has been steep. $TRUMP traded around $1.69 to $1.78 recently, down about 97% to 98% from its all-time high of $75.35 shortly after its launch in January 2025.

That collapse is especially striking because Trump announced the token just three days before his inauguration in 2025. The timing made the coin one of the most closely watched political crypto launches, drawing in supporters, speculators, and meme-coin traders hoping to ride the next viral asset.

Why Are Recent $TRUMP Buyers Bearing The Biggest Losses?

The losses appear heavily concentrated among later buyers.

Out of around 1.48 million wallets that purchased $TRUMP, Nansen found that 988,905 were at a loss by the end of June. This figure also includes unrealized losses on tokens still being held, meaning some investors have not sold but are sitting on sharply reduced positions.

Early buyers, however, were in a very different position. Those who entered below the dollar mark before the token surged toward $75 two days later captured most of the gains.

Across all wallets, gains and losses nearly balance out, with a net balance of about $236 million. However, that figure is still only about one-third of the $636 million Trump declared in income linked to the token.

How Much Did Trump Earn From The $TRUMP Token?

Trump’s annual financial disclosure showed that he made about $636 million from the $TRUMP memecoin, accounting for nearly half of the $1.4 billion he reportedly made from the crypto industry last year.

The 927-page asset declaration, published on June 30 by the Office of Government Ethics, listed payments flowing through CIC Digital LLC. Those earnings were in addition to hundreds of millions of dollars linked to World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance project partly owned by the Trump family.

The contrast is hard to miss: while many buyers watched the token crater, Trump reported hundreds of millions of dollars in income tied to it.

“President Trump proudly made the United States the crypto capital of the world,” Anna Kelly, a White House spokeswoman, said. “All actions by President Trump and his administration are taken in the best interest of the American people.”

Why Is The $TRUMP Memecoin Controversy Fueling Crypto Regulation Debate?

The $TRUMP losses come as the administration has taken a lighter approach toward crypto oversight.

Under Trump, the Securities and Exchange Commission has said it will not regulate memecoins as securities and has dropped several lawsuits against crypto companies. That policy backdrop has intensified criticism over public officials launching or benefiting from tokens while retail investors absorb losses.

The controversy also extends beyond $TRUMP. Nansen tracked 26,663 wallets that bought WLFI on secondary markets, with 85% of them at a loss. Those losses reached $83 million, compared with $23 million in gains.

At the same time, broader crypto weakness has made the split look even sharper. The $TRUMP token’s market capitalization has fallen to about $425 million from nearly $15 billion at its January peak.

Congress is now reviewing the CLARITY Act, while Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has pushed to ban elected officials from issuing tokens. A similar provision was dropped from the GENIUS Act last year.

For now, the numbers have given critics a simple argument: the memecoin boom worked out far better for its most powerful promoter than for the small holders who bought in late.
