Microsoft's Copilot Fall Release: AI Updates For Edge, Actions, Group, & Mico
Updated on Fri, Oct 24, 2025
It came with a wide range of features, including browsing through conversations that can draw from previous chats, details, and history.
Now, OpenAI’s longtime primary backer, Microsoft, has made moves of its own to counter competition from ChatGPT’s maker—revealed through updates announced as part of Microsoft’s Copilot Fall Release, which banks on the idea of providing human-centric AI.
The blog post listing the updates and new features began with a letter penned by Mustafa Suleyman, the CEO of Microsoft AI, who’s also credited with writing the blog post.
“We’re building AI that gets you back to your life. That deepens human connection. That earns your trust,” said Suleyman.
Microsoft says the new release is a major step towards delivering its vision of AI that is in service of people.
Copilot Mode in Edge turns Microsoft’s internet browser into an AI browser.
With a user’s permission, Copilot can see and reason over open tabs, summarize and compare information, and even use Copilot Actions to complete tasks such as booking a hotel or filling out forms. It also comes with voice-only navigation, which enables hands-free browsing.
Copilot Journeys is a new feature that organizes past browsing into meaningful storylines, allowing users to revisit ideas and resume tasks without retracing steps.
Users have the option of opting in and out, and can also manage permissions, clear history, and adjust settings easily.
Microsoft is bringing new capabilities beyond just its browser—Copilot on Windows can turn every Windows 11 PC into an AI PC, allowing users to interact with it naturally, in text or voice, see what they see and offer guided support, and take action on their behalf. Copilot can even open and summarize files.
By saying “Hey Copilot,” users can start conversations anytime, if the feature is enabled and the PC is unlocked.
“AI should be social, not isolating.”
Copilot Groups turns Copilot into a shared experience, allowing friends, classmates, or teammates to collaborate in real time. It can accommodate up to 32 people in a group, and keep everyone updated by summarizing threads, proposing options, tallying votes, and splitting tasks. Microsoft put out a video to help users better understand how it works.
“Connection isn’t just about conversation, it’s about creativity, too.”
Imagine allows users to explore and remix AI-generated ideas in a collaborative space and browse creations and adapt them to fit their personal needs.
Both these moves are aimed at boosting AI’s social intelligence, while elevating group chats, encouraging creativity, and growing conversations.
It even drew a post by Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO and Chairman, on LinkedIn, saying, “With Groups, Copilot goes multiplayer! You can now collaborate in real time with your team + Copilot to brainstorm, co-write, plan, or study together. One of my favorite new features.”
To further personalize experiences, the company introduced Copilot Mico (mashes Microsoft and Copilot), which acts as an “expressive, customizable, and warm” AI companion.
Mico is an optional visual character that listens, reacts, and changes colors based on interactions, and makes voice conversations feel more natural while depicting support using animation and expressions.
In addition to an official Microsoft video, Satya Nadella posted a video highlighting what the new character brings, saying, “Clippy is back!!”
Bringing AI’s capabilities to health, learning, and wellbeing is one of Microsoft’s top priorities—and through Copilot for health, users get improved responses for health-related questions, tapping into credible sources such as Harvard Health to deliver reliable information. It even helps users find the right doctors quickly and confidently, matching based on specialty, location, language, and other preferences. Check out the video.
Coming to education, Learn Live makes Copilot a voice-enabled tutor that guides users through concepts instead of just giving answers. It uses questions, visual cues, and interactive whiteboards to enhance the process.
Ahead of these updates, Microsoft also brought in new features and capabilities.
Real talk is a collaborative model that challenges assumptions with care.
Copilot now comes with long term memory, and with its Memory & Personalization feature, users can ask it to remember important information and recall it in future interactions. It will soon also be able to reference past conversations.
Connectors links with content across platforms such as OneDrive, Outlook, Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Calendar, enabling users to access documents, emails, and calendar events, and more.
Proactive Actions preview allows Copilot to surface timely insights and suggest next steps based on recent activity or research threads.
Pages, which facilitates collaboration, now offers multi-file upload, supporting up to 20 files across common document, image, and text formats.
Copilot Search combines AI-generated answers with traditional results in one view.
“This release is a milestone for what AI can deliver,” concluded Suleman.
“Copilot now connects you to yourself, to others, and to the tools you use every day. It’s there for you, helps you stay organized, and even supports your health. It brings people together in shared chats, helps you learn with voice and visuals, and shows up with warmth, personality and even an appearance: Mico.”
Do you think these new updates will help Microsoft thwart the threat from OpenAI’s recent release and challenge sector leader Google Chrome?
