Artificial intelligence (AI) burst onto the scene a few years ago, completely revolutionizing our lives. However, it has now become a silent revolution, one that’s quietly changing how we learn and teach.

Across colleges, classrooms, and campuses, education is getting a serious tech upgrade.

Heavyweights like Microsoft, Google, and Pearson are teaming up to bring smarter AI tools to teachers and more personalized support for students. Meanwhile, an Indian EdTech firm is stepping up after a major funding round, and teachers in the U.S. are already seeing real time-saving benefits with AI adoption.

Let’s dive into the educational world that is quickly becoming AI-powered.

Pearson And Google Partner To Revolutionize K-12 Education With AI Tools

Pearson, the global education company, and Google have officially announced a multi-year strategic collaboration set to transform K-12 education through advanced AI tools.

This partnership aims to personalize learning for students, empower educators with crucial insights, and ultimately improve educational outcomes globally.

The collaboration will see Pearson, a leader in lifelong learning, integrate Google Cloud’s Vertex AI Platform, including Gemini and LearnLM models, into its K-12 products and services. This partnership aims to deliver richer content and more engaging learning experiences, particularly within virtual schools and assessment programs like Connections Academy and GED.

"When applied thoughtfully and responsibly, AI has the power to transform K-12 education, moving beyond a one-size-fits-all model to support each student on their unique learning journey,” stated Omar Abbosh, Pearson CEO.

Key efforts include creating AI-powered study tools that personalize learning for each student, giving teachers data-backed insights through platforms like BigQuery, and making it easier to deliver AI-driven educational content on a scale. Both companies are also focused on ensuring these technologies are used responsibly and securely.

Tara Brady, President, Google Cloud EMEA, emphasized the potential, saying, “Our collaboration with Pearson is about unlocking this potential. Using Google Cloud's advanced AI models and agentic expertise, students will receive support tailored to their individual pace and needs, and teachers will be equipped with intelligent tools and actionable insights, so they have greater capacity for educators to focus on inspiring curiosity and preparing students to thrive.”

While Pearson and Google are pushing the boundaries of personalized learning, Microsoft is also making shifts to reimagine classroom experiences using its AI assistant.

Microsoft Aims To Redefine Education With Leaps In Its AI Copilot

Microsoft is bringing a major update to the classroom with new tools for teachers in Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot+ PCs. They’re also rolling out Copilot Chat for teens and have released a 2025 report on how AI technologies are reshaping teaching and learning.

At ISTELive 25 and ASCD Annual 25 in San Antonio, Texas, Microsoft highlighted its focus on creating more engaging learning experiences and helping teachers build confidence with new technology.

The events spotlighted new Microsoft 365 Copilot features, Copilot Agents, and updates to Learning Accelerators and Learning Management System (LMS) integrations.

Microsoft 365 Copilot helps improve teaching with new tools like reasoning agents, including Researcher and Analyst. Schools such as Brisbane Catholic Education and Miami Dade College are already using Copilot to save time and try out new ways to support learning.

Shane Tooley, Assistant Principal Curriculum at St. Peter Claver College, shared how they encouraged teachers to experiment freely: “We told our staff: you have permission to try, and permission to fail. That opened the door for teachers to test Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Chat without fear of judgment or wasted time. Most of the time, those experiments don’t fail—they spark new ways of thinking.”

Another highlight is the new “Learning Zone” on Copilot+ PCs, formerly known as Project Spark, launching in preview this summer with tools for lesson creation, customization, and insights. It features content from partners like NASA, Minecraft Education, Kahoot!, and OpenStax.

The 2025 AI in Education Report shows a sharp rise in the use of AI in classrooms, with over 80% of educators saying they’ve used it this year—up 21% from last year. Artificial Intelligence is no longer just a helpful tool, but, as the report puts it, a “thought partner and force multiplier.”

However, there are still hurdles. About one in three K-12 educators in the U.S. say they’re not confident using AI effectively or responsibly, and more than half of the students surveyed say they haven’t received any AI training at all.

This points to a clear need for deeper collaboration among students, educators, and stakeholders to create an AI-driven future by helping everyone build the skills they’ll need.

Pat Yongpradit, Chief Academic Officer of Code.org and Lead of TeachAI, stresses the importance of support, saying, “I need training, it needs to be high quality, relevant, and job-embedded…’ In reality, people require guidance and that means teachers and administrators going through professional development.”

Finally, Copilot Chat—powered by GPT-4o and included with Microsoft 365 at no extra cost—will be available to teen students (13–17) in late July 2025, helping them build essential skills for the future while ensuring enterprise-level data protection.

As Microsoft continues to expand its AI offerings for educators and students, it's also building strong partnerships to ensure the content powering these tools is both reliable and relevant.

Rice University’s OpenStax Joins Forces With Microsoft For AI-Enhanced Learning

Rice University’s OpenStax, a prominent provider of open educational resources, has teamed up with Microsoft to integrate its trusted content into the new Microsoft Learning Zone.

Available on Microsoft Copilot+ PCs, this AI-powered platform is designed to give educators and students access to trusted, peer-reviewed content and responsible AI tools.

Microsoft Learning Zone gives educators full control to adjust lessons before sharing and ensures transparency in content creation and sources, supporting responsible AI use.

With OpenStax’s library of 80 openly licensed titles now integrated, educators can easily create engaging lessons without having to find and verify materials on their own.

This integration brings together responsible AI and trusted content already used by 13,569 K-12 schools, 71% of U.S. colleges and universities, and learners in 153 countries worldwide.

Deirdre Quarnstrom, vice president of Microsoft Education, highlighted the synergy: “At Microsoft, we’re committed to empowering educators with technology that saves time and enhances learning.”

Through our partnership with OpenStax, we’re combining the power of on-device AI in Copilot+ PCs with OpenStax’s trusted and diverse peer-reviewed content to help educators quickly create high-quality, personalized, engaging lessons. We’re excited about how this collaboration will empower classrooms globally,” he added.

With Microsoft Learning Zone, educators can use a library of ready-made lessons or build their own. The platform also gives students instant feedback and can present material in new ways if they get a question wrong.

Richard G. Baraniuk, founder and director of OpenStax, emphasized their shared vision: “At OpenStax, our mission is to make an amazing education accessible to all. That’s why we’re excited to integrate our trustworthy, peer-reviewed content with Microsoft’s AI technology through the Microsoft Learning Zone.”

He added that “Together, we aim to help more instructors and their students access engaging, effective learning experiences in new and dynamic ways. We also share a strong commitment to the thoughtful and responsible application of AI to better ensure all learners can succeed.”
