Apple Plans To Create Wearable AI With Smartwatches & Launch A Foldable iPhone
Updated on Mon, Mar 24, 2025
In the two and a half years that have followed, pretty much every technology company has shifted its focus to integrating AI (artificial intelligence) technology into not just their internal operations but also their products and services to offer consumers better features and functionalities.
While most tech conglomerates pushed hard to adopt AI from the very beginning, Apple didn’t jump on the bandwagon early on.
Eventually, the company did launch its own brand of AI, Apple Intelligence, which came at the same time it launched the new iPhone series—Apple iPhone 16 And iPhone 16 Pro.
From there, the company rolled out new products with AI capabilities, released new AI services, paused AI services, revealed plans to invest $500 billion in the United States spread over four years, said it would bring its Apple Intelligence to its Apple Vision Pro headset, pushed the launch of AI-powered Siri features, and a wide range of other moves.
Unfortunately for the company, its AI plan hasn’t gone as well as it hoped it would. As per a survey, 73% of iPhone owners using Apple Intelligence say its features “add little to no value.”
Even the company’s decision to delay the Siri AI feature to 2026 drew criticism as well as the filing of a class-action lawsuit at the US District Court in San Jose. Consumers are claiming that Apple’s failure to deliver on its Siri AI features after being bombarded with ads could have misled people to purchase the product but not receive the service. As such, users want to make Apple pay for its false advertising of AI features.
Yet, Apple isn’t one to go down quietly, instead, it will find new ways to innovate and make its AI endeavor successful.
In this regard, Apple is planning to infuse its proprietary AI technology into the Apple Watch—its line of smartwatches—transforming them into wearable AI, as per reports.
The company intends to integrate cameras to build “visual intelligence” features such as object identification, translation of text on pictures, and more, which are currently only available on the latest iPhones.
Cameras will be added to the Series and Ultra models of the Apple Watch, where Series’ camera will be fit inside its display, and Ultra’s camera is expected to be on the side of the watch. This comes on the back of a potential scrapping of a plastic version of the Apple Watch SE that was meant to bring down costs.
Recently, Apple secured a whole bunch of new patents and signed various partnerships to enhance its product offerings, including the introduction of a foldable iPhone expected to hit the markets (or at least be revealed) in the second half of 2026.
Reportedly, Apple will use a liquid metal hinge to reduce screen crease marks, enhance screen flatness, and improve durability. It’s said that the device’s inside display will measure 7.8 inches, and its cover display will be 5.5 inches. Following a design similar to the Galaxy Z Fold, the company’s engineers are targeting a thickness of 4.5mm when opened and 9mm to 9.5mm when folded.
The company also plans to launch an 18.8-inch foldable MacBook-iPad hybrid that will unfold into the size of two iPad Pros placed side-by-side, sometime in 2028.
Do you think Apple will face success with its smartwatch and foldable devices?
