Anthropic Updates AI Models With A Feature That Controls PCs

The introduction of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) opened numerous doors across industries, which brought in companies in droves to infuse the technology across its processes.

The trade-off was clear: faster turnaround times, productivity boosts, enhanced operations and more benefits that helped them reduce costs, time and effort.

This inflated the investments made in artificial intelligence (AI) startups and AI hardware companies, including GPU leader NVIDIA.

It's been almost two years since OpenAI released ChatGPT and the demand for AI products hasn’t slowed down at all. In fact, it’s only picked up. However, now, businesses are demanding even more from such tools and platforms, as their requirements have grown more complex and sophisticated.

This is why AI companies are updating their offerings as they look to provide them with advanced capabilities and customized services.

Among these is Anthropic, an AI startup that’s been in the conversation since the early days of GenAI.

Anthropic’s Shiny New Capabilities

Anthropic recently announced the launch of its Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Claude 3.5 Haiku, both updated AI models that deliver across-the-board improvements over their predecessors. This includes significant boosts in coding, an area where it already led, as well as affordability and speed.

Anthropic’s upgraded Claude 3.5 Sonnet is now available for all users, while its new Claude 3.5 Haiku will be released later this month.

However, we used “shiny” because, while the updates made to its AI models are noteworthy, the showstopper is the company’s new Computer Use feature.

The feature offers a brand-new approach to enhance processes, overriding the current trend of making specific tools to help AI platforms (including Claude) complete individual tasks.

Instead, the company is teaching Claude general computer skills.

This means that it will be able to control and navigate computers (responsibly) and use a wide range of standard tools and software programs designed for people.

In Anthropic’s words, “Developers can direct Claude to use computers the way people do - by looking at a screen, moving a cursor, clicking buttons and typing text.”


Computer Use will be available through Anthropic’s frontier Claude 3.5 Sonnet AI model in public beta. However, the company warns that the feature is still in its testing phase and can throw out errors.

The new feature is already being used by the likes of Asana, Canva, Cognition, DoorDash, Replit and The Browser Company, which are performing tasks that require hundreds of steps to complete.

Speaking of Asana, the software developer behind the leading enterprise work management platform by the same name, recently revealed a new product that’s set to further boost workflow efficiency and operational productivity using the power of AI.

Asana Announces AI Studio

Asana recently unveiled its Asana AI Studio, a no-code builder that lets users design workflows and embed AI agents, as well as deploy the workflow directly where teams are already working in Asana.

Unlike other AI tools, Asana’s AI agents work directly with the team, like a teammate and can perform routine tasks, handle project coordination and orchestrate work across critical workflows, including intake, planning, execution and reporting.

Dustin Moskovitz, Co-founder and CEO of Asana, summarized the move by saying, “We're excited to roll out a no-code builder that lets customers design workflows by simply giving AI instructions in plain language. This level of ease and accessibility to building agents is a big step forward for any company wanting to improve the quality of their work while empowering teams to move faster.”

Interestingly, Microsoft made a similar announcement one day earlier.
