Anthropic has expanded Claude Cowork beyond desktop, bringing the AI agentic work platform to web and mobile. The move gives users more ways to start, monitor, and review work across devices instead of keeping a desktop session active throughout a task.
The company said beta access is rolling out over the next several weeks, beginning with Max users, with more plans to follow. Anthropic’s support page says Cowork runs sessions remotely in beta, so sessions and files live with a user’s Claude account and follow across desktop, web, and mobile.
For users, that means Claude Cowork can now be used more like a persistent work agent. Anthropic’s Cowork product page says users can start a task at a desk, check in from a phone, and come back to a polished deck, document, or spreadsheet for review.
The update also enables work to continue after a laptop is closed. Anthropic says scheduled tasks can run unattended, while Claude can send users notifications when it needs review or approval. This keeps human oversight in the loop while allowing the agent to keep working in the background.
The broader rollout also changes how Cowork fits into Claude. Anthropic’s support material says Chat and Cowork now share one home, so handing Claude a task can start from the same message box as a conversation. The company describes Cowork as a way to describe an outcome, step away, and return to finished work such as formatted documents, organized files, and synthesized research.
The move is not just about coding. Anthropic said a recent study of Claude Cowork usage found that business process and operations accounted for 33.4% of sampled sessions, more than double the next-largest category, content creation and copywriting, at 16.4%.
Separate reporting based on Anthropic’s usage data said the company sampled 1.2 million anonymized Cowork sessions from more than 600,000 organizations during the last two weeks of May. Software development accounted for 8.7% of sessions, meaning more than 90% of usage sat outside coding.
However, the full Cowork experience is still not identical across every surface. The Verge reported that the full experience, including local file access, remains on the desktop app, even as users on iOS, Android, and the web gain access to Cowork. The report also said cloud-based sessions are now the default, with an option to switch to local processing on desktop.
Alongside the Cowork update, Anthropic is also keeping Claude Fable 5 access open longer for paid users. Anthropic had earlier restored Claude Fable 5 access globally from July 1 after US export controls on Fable 5 and Mythos 5 were lifted.
Anthropic said Fable 5 would be available globally to users on Free, Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise, Claude Code, and the Claude API, while Mythos 5 would be available only to select enterprise customers in the United States, pending clearance from the US government.
