Is The Galaxy Z Fold 7 Worth It? Here’s What We Know So Far
By Amrit Mehra

Overview
The handheld wireless device enabled users to talk to each other, from anywhere, at any time—powered simply by a battery.
Sounds familiar? It should—it’s basically a smartphone!
Of course, back in the 60s, no such consumer product existed, even if a concept did. So, naturally, viewers were left awestruck by this gizmo. Some even attribute Star Trek’s innovation as the inspiration for modern-day mobile phones.
Either way, it took a while to develop mobile phones that resembled Star Trek's Communicator. One of the first consumer mobile phones ever produced was a device the size of a brick. The progress from there to flip phones—like the Communicator—to widely distributed smartphones has been a long journey.
In the past few years, technological progress and advancement have been so rapid that people can hardly wait for the next version of smartphones. This is especially true for flagship products, such as Samsung’s Galaxy and S series, Apple’s iPhone series, and others.
We have good news, though! One of the most anticipated smartphones is about to enter the market—Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7. Until then, we can indulge in the marvel we think it’ll be.
Dive in!
If someone were to use Star Trek’s Communicator today, people would probably mistake it for an early smartphone model from a museum.
For its time, flip phones (just like the Communicator) were easy to use, carry, and store, thanks to their compact design.
However, today’s phones offer more features and capabilities than what the Star Trek device did, earning it the museum jibe.
Interestingly, phones went from brick-size to as tiny as they could be and circled around to large devices once again—this time, because gigantic screens can cater to a wide range of features.
Today’s phones are getting more sophisticated with each iteration, despite people saying they all look the same—and we can’t really disagree with this assessment. In this case, phone designers could be restricted by users demands of large touchscreens, a long battery life, powerful cameras, and other features that make creativity in design quite tough.
Still, we managed to beat the system by moving from one screen to expandable screens that sport two and even three panels—along with the originally intended single panel—essentially turning into tablets.
This is what Samsung did with its Galaxy Fold series, which opens up with a larger display, allowing users to multitask, stream content, or work on documents with a tablet-like experience.
As we said earlier, users are impatient when it comes to the latest devices even if they're unreleased or announced—we love it when companies tease game-changing innovations!
This is why they love to indulge in the latest rumors of the newest phones, and today, we’re going to dive into the latest information available about Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7.
So, what do we know about Samsung’s latest Fold phone so far?
What We Know About The Galaxy Z Fold 7 So Far
Samsung is gearing up to once again push the boundaries of foldable smartphones with its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7. However, without an official announcement, this is essentially a rumor—or rather an educated guess.
Samsung shared teasers of a new foldable phone. However, it’s unclear which series it’s from, as the company only refers to it as Ultra. This included a release introducing users to the Next Chapter of Ultra, and two others talking about design and camera improvements. Each release ends with Samsung saying, “The Ultra experience is ready to unfold.”
So, this might be the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra, or from another series—although it’s most likely the 7 series. However, until that’s confirmed, we can only rely on rumors and leaks (#irony) to learn what to expect from Samsung’s new premium foldable smartphone, and here’s what we know so far.
Galaxy Z Fold 7’s Release Date
If Samsung keeps up with tradition, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will most likely be revealed in early July 2025 during a Galaxy Unpacked event. Galaxy Z Fold 6 was announced on July 10, 2024, and Galaxy Z Fold 5 on 26 July, 2023, so the July 2025 expectation is fitting, but we don’t have an exact date. However, the event might also feature the release of the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
Galaxy Z Fold 7’s Price And Deals
Samsung may keep the pricing similar to last year’s Z Fold 6, where a 256GB / 512GB / 1TB Galaxy Z Fold 6 costs $1,899 / $1,999 / $2,199 respectively. However, some experts anticipate a small bump due to rising component costs, especially regarding the newer Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.
Customers should expect base prices to hover around the $1,900 mark.
As for deals, customers could enjoy promotions coming from Samsung, which includes trade-ins worth up to $1,200. As for carriers (USA), Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile can be expected to bring offers of up to $1,000 off with eligible trade-ins and unlimited plans.
Galaxy Z Fold 7’s Design
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 will most likely look a lot like its predecessor, but customers can expect subtle changes that set it apart.
Potential changes include being thinner and lighter, where the folded thickness may see a shrink down to 8.9mm when folded (from the 10.6mm observed in the Special Edition)—this version is expected to miss out on the ultra-slim design too. However, when folded, it’s expected to be 3.9mm when it’s opened. Additionally, the weight may drop to 236g, climbing down from Galaxy Z Fold 6’s 239g.
Leaked images suggest the phone might come with a titanium backplate, bringing a more premium finish and possibly better durability. Furthermore, Samsung is rumored to introduce a fresh Icy Blue shade, one that was previously seen on the Galaxy S25.
In Samsung’s teasers, the company referred to the new foldable phone as “the newest Galaxy Z series is the thinnest, lightest and most advanced foldable yet—meticulously crafted and built to last.”
Galaxy Z Fold 7’s Display
Samsung may be set to finally address long-standing complaints by making the outer display wider, allowing users to enjoy a more typical smartphone feel when the phone is closed.
Both screens are expected to be slightly larger than the Z Fold 6. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to come with an upgraded cover display of 6.5 inches and an inner folding display that expands to 8 inches.
As far as display upgrades go, users can expect a less visible crease for a more seamless experience. This will further be enhanced by shrunken bezels that go from 1.9mm to 1mm, improving immersive experiences. Additionally, the phone is expected to come with LTPO AMOLED 2X tech with 120Hz refresh rate and up to 2600 nits brightness, offering flagship-level visual quality and outdoor visibility.
Keeping to the theme of previous models, the outer screen is expected to be protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, while the inner screen will use flexible glass with improvements in scratch resistance.
Galaxy Z Fold 7’s Camera
Samsung flagship phones are known for their excellent cameras, aren’t they? The Galaxy Z Fold 7 will live up to this tradition regardless of whatever specs they ultimately deliver. However, the phone is expected to feature a 200MP (megapixel) main sensor—a massive leap from the Fold 6’s 50MP shooter—that aligns with specs from the Z Fold Special Edition. In teasers, Samsung revealed a vertically arranged tri-camera system.
The complete expected camera setup includes:
-
A 200MP Wide Camera with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization)
-
A 12MP Ultra-Wide Camera
-
A 10MP Telephoto Lens (3X zoom)
-
A 10MP Front Selfie Camera
-
A 4MP Under-Display Inner Camera
If the rumors are true, this 200MP upgrade could make the phone one of the most powerful camera systems ever seen on a foldable device.
It’s also believed that Samsung confirmed that the new phone’s camera system will integrate AI, bringing improved scene recognition, contextual awareness, and other features that make it smarter than its predecessors.
Galaxy Z Fold 7’s Software And Features
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to sport One UI 7, built on Android 15, tailored for multitasking and foldable user experience (UX) enhancements. Alternate reports say that Samsung is testing One UI 8 running Android 16 for the new phone.
Either way, the new phone offers Samsung the perfect opportunity to introduce updated Flex Mode features, enabling more dynamic use of the device in partially folded states, such as video calling, note-taking with the S Pen, and improved app continuity across screens. It’s also believed to come with improved water and dust resistance, upgrades that push towards an IP58 rating.
Galaxy Z Fold 7’s Hardware Specifications
Under the hood, the Fold 7 is likely to feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Elite chipset, 12GB or 16GB of RAM, and storage options of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. It’s not expected to offer expandable storage (as usual), but Samsung’s cloud and device storage optimizations are powerful enough to overcome this missing feature.
Some rumors even suggest a bigger vapor chamber for cooling and the addition of the S Pen accessory, which could be major improvements for gaming and heavy multitasking.
Galaxy Z Fold 7’s Battery
The phone is expected to carry a battery size of around 4,400mAh to 4,500mAh, the same as its predecessor. Its fast-charging capabilities will most likely stay in the 25W–30W range, along with wireless charging and reverse wireless charging support. Its performance will be further enhanced by One UI optimizations and an energy-efficient Snapdragon chip.
Galaxy Z Fold 7 Vs. Galaxy Z Fold 6
When it comes to comparing the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to its predecessor, the new device is expected to outshine with camera upgrades (going from 50MP to 200MP—main sensor), design improvements (lighter, thinner, and wider), display (larger, brighter, slimmer bezels, and a less visible crease), chip (swapping the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Elite), dust resistance, and continued S Pen support (possibly redesigned).
Sure, both models may look similar at first glance, but the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to deliver never-before-seen experiences. That brings us to an important question.
Is The Galaxy Z Fold 7 Worth The Wait?
From a massive camera upgrade and sleeker design to powerful internals and wider displays, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is poised to deliver a significant leap in foldable phone technology. For some, the new phone is shaping up to become one of Samsung’s most polished foldable yet.
However, is the Fold 7 worth the wait, or should someone looking to buy a foldable phone just fold and buy a Fold 6?
It’s not a simple question to answer, but if camera quality, powerful performance, and a better front-screen experience matter to you, waiting a month or two longer to acquire the Fold 7 might be your best move. Furthermore, generous trade-in offers and carrier deals could help smoothen the likelihood of a minor price bump.
So, will you move for the Fold 6 now, or wait for the Galaxy Z Fold 7?
Conclusion
While Samsung hasn’t declared much officially, it has begun publishing teasers of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and it’s only a matter of time before we know more about the foldable phone.
At the same time, the teasers don’t explicitly mention the Galaxy Z Fold 7 but talk about the “newest Galaxy Z series is the thinnest, lightest and most advanced foldable yet–meticulously crafted and built to last.” It also reads “The Ultra experience is ready to unfold,” meaning that this could be another model before the Fold 7 releases or the Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra.
In the end, Samsung continues pushing the boundaries with its revamped foldable flagship, and we're excited to see what the Galaxy Z Fold 7 offers!
