Zipline Is Zipping In With A Brand New Way Of Delivery!
Updated on Wed, Apr 12, 2023
According to the report from 7th April, Zipline introduced a new electric autonomous drone that was capable of a more accurate delivery. Unlike their previous process, which involved parachuting packages from the sky onto a target area, the new system introduced a small duffle bag-sized vessel called a "droid" that was deployed on a rope from the drone and steered towards the target location. #FutureOfDelivery
The accompanying software can be integrated with third-party inventory management and ordering systems, and an app will allow customers and companies to track their orders "to the second." Zipline's co-founder and CEO, Keller Rinaudo Cliffton, stated that they have built "the closest thing to teleportation ever created," promising a "smooth, ultrafast, convenient, and truly magical autonomous logistics system that serves all people equally, wherever they are." #DronesInTheSky
While the new delivery system is undoubtedly impressive, there are some concerns. One of the main issues with drone delivery is finding a safe landing area. Packages cannot be dropped into mailboxes and porches or backyards are often covered, making it difficult for drones to deliver. Parachute delivery methods have been developed but these are unreliable and can be dependent on weather conditions. #TheStruggleIsReal
In fact, conglomerates like Amazon have faced regulatory hurdles before fully implementing drone delivery systems. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has a strict set of regulations for using drones and even a brand like Amazon needs special permits and approvals. #StruggleContinues
Additionally, the legal implications surrounding drone delivery could be more precise. Who owns the airspace above your home and can drones fly over your property without permission?
Lawmakers still grappling with these questions, making it a legal grey area. However, Zipline is one of many ambitions companies, among Amazon and Walmart, also pursuing drone delivery systems.
Despite the challenges, Zipline's new drone delivery system represents a significant step forward in the delivery world, promising to revolutionize how packages are delivered to homes!
