WhatsApp has expanded its calling experience with browser-based audio and video calls, seamless transfers between devices, group-call waiting rooms, faster HD video and background noise suppression. The features began rolling out gradually on July 28, 2026.

WhatsApp Web Finally Gets Audio And Video Calls
WhatsApp users can now make and receive one-on-one and group audio and video calls directly through WhatsApp Web, removing the need to download the desktop application.
The browser-based experience includes screen sharing, reactions and a dedicated Calls tab containing call history and favourite contacts. WhatsApp says web calls have no time limits, are available at no cost and remain protected by end-to-end encryption.

Call Transfer Connects Mobile, Web And Desktop
The new Call Transfer feature allows users to move an active group call from one device to another without ending the conversation or joining again.
For example, a call started on a smartphone or tablet while travelling can be transferred to WhatsApp Web or the desktop application when the user reaches a larger screen. Calls can also be moved in the opposite direction when users need to leave their computer.

WhatsApp is also giving group-call creators more control over who enters a conversation.
When creating a WhatsApp call link, hosts can enable the “Require approval to join” option. Participants using the link will then be placed in a Waiting Room until the host approves their entry.
QuickHD And Noise Suppression Improve Call Quality
QuickHD is designed to deliver high-definition video within the first few seconds of a call, reducing the initial period in which video can appear blurry while the connection adjusts.
WhatsApp has also launched background noise suppression, which filters surrounding sounds so voices remain clearer in loud or busy environments. Users can manage noise suppression through their settings during an active call.
WhatsApp said the new calling features are rolling out gradually and will become available to all users soon. The company has not announced a precise date for completing the global rollout.
