TV Time is scheduled to discontinue service on July 15, 2026, but original founder Antonio Pinto is already building Bingers, a successor designed to preserve watch histories, episode tracking and the fan discussions that made the app popular.

TL;DR

  • TV Time will stop operating and leave app stores on July 15, following concerns about the cost of maintaining its free consumer service.
  • Bingers is expected to launch on iOS and Android by the end of July 2026.
  • Users can import their TV Time archives into Bingers, including viewing history and community comments.
  • Pinto says the new platform has been rebuilt to reduce server expenses and improve speed.

TV Time’s closure is set to end a 15-year run for one of the best-known television and movie-tracking communities. The app allowed viewers to log episodes, follow release calendars, discover titles and share reactions with other fans.

Whip Media, TV Time’s parent company, told users that maintaining the free app was no longer sustainable and that there was insufficient demand for a paid version.

“Your passion and enthusiasm made TV Time more than an app. You made it a community,” the shutdown message said.

The decision drew immediate resistance. A Change.org petition asking Whip Media to reconsider the closure had collected more than 25,800 verified signatures as of July 14. App intelligence data cited by TechCrunch also placed TV Time at more than 26.4 million lifetime installations, with nearly 29,000 downloads recorded during the 30 days preceding the shutdown report.

Now, Antonio Pinto, who co-created the original TVShow Time project with Talal Mazroui in 2011, is attempting to rebuild that community under a new name.

Pinto said the original project began as a solution for remembering where he and Mazroui had stopped watching their shows. The Paris-based team grew the service to 1.5 million users largely through word of mouth before Whipclip, now Whip Media, acquired it in 2016. Following the acquisition and rebranding, TV Time reached 2.5 million active users.

“I decided to build the new home where the TV Time community could go,” Pinto wrote.

What Will Bingers Offer?

Bingers is positioned as a modernized watchlist and fan community, with episode tracking, an upcoming-release calendar, profiles, rewatches and community reactions. Pinto says it will recreate comments from TV Time when users import their archives through the available data-export process.

The import tool is already available on the Bingers website, allowing users to prepare their viewing records before the mobile apps arrive. Bingers is expected to become available through Apple’s App Store and Google Play by the end of July.

Pinto also claims the platform has been designed around lower-cost infrastructure. According to the founder, TV Time’s server expenses became so high that advertising or premium subscriptions would have covered less than 10% of the costs.

He said Bingers’ architecture substantially reduces server expenses, with the goal of making the new service sustainable. It is also designed to respond faster when viewers mark episodes as watched, including during periods when millions of fans are connected.

Meanwhile, Whip Media is concentrating on Helix, its AI-native platform for content licensing, rights, revenue and operational workflows. Whip Media says Helix uses AI-powered automation and agentic AI to reduce repetitive work and connect entertainment-industry processes.

For TV Time’s users, Bingers offers a possible route to keep years of viewing data and fan interactions from disappearing with the original app.
