TikTok has entered the booming short-form storytelling arena with the quiet launch of its new standalone micro-drama app, PineDrama. The app, currently available in the United States and Brazil, focuses exclusively on serialized one-minute fictional dramas that mirror the short, addictive nature of TikTok videos.

TL;DR

  • TikTok launched PineDrama, a standalone app dedicated to short-form fictional series.
  • The app is free and ad-free, available in the U.S. and Brazil.
  • Users can log in with existing TikTok accounts and watch micro dramas for free.
  • The top three trending shows each surpassed 100 million views, showcasing surging audience interest.
  • Industry experts say it’s a sign that vertical video storytelling is rapidly evolving.

TikTok’s new standalone app PineDrama is its latest experiment in short-form serialized entertainment. Designed to resemble TikTok’s familiar interface, the app exclusively features fictional micro dramas told through vertically shot, one-minute episodes.

Users can log in using their existing TikTok accounts and watch series such as The Officer Fell For Me, The Return of Divorced Heiress, and My Unwanted Billionaire Ex. There are currently no ads or paywalls, suggesting the company is testing audience response before adding monetization features.

PineDrama’s shows are proving to be immediate hits. One series, Love at First Bite, has already attracted 18 million views, while the app’s top three trending titles have each surpassed 100 million views, according to tallies displayed in the app.

Industry experts view PineDrama as an experiment that could eventually evolve into a new monetized vertical. “What’s interesting about this one is it’s the first time they’re launching it advertising-free, and it doesn’t yet have a paywall,” said Hernan Lopez, founder of streaming consulting firm Owl & Co. “It’s a sign that vertical video is evolving. You’re going to see more announcements this year from many other companies,” he added.

According to Owl & Co., the micro drama format generated around $1.3 billion in the U.S. in 2025, driven largely by direct payments from viewers. Still, some investors remain skeptical about the model's long-term profitability, citing high marketing costs to acquire new users.

PineDrama isn’t TikTok’s first step into micro dramas. The company previously tested the waters with TikTok Minis, a section inside its main app where users could binge short, serialized stories without leaving the platform. Many of the same content providers behind TikTok Minis, including Dreame, Stardust TV, and ShortMax, are now featured prominently on PineDrama.

TikTok’s parent company has also expanded its micro-drama presence in Asia through several dedicated apps, including Melolo and Red Fruit, indicating that it sees significant potential in transforming short-form storytelling into a global entertainment trend.

As the global micro drama industry is projected to reach $26 billion by 2030, PineDrama may become TikTok’s key to merging short-form video culture with scripted storytelling, potentially redefining mobile entertainment in the process.
