Telegram Restored To Apple App Store After Removal Over CSAM Posted By One User

Telegram was briefly removed from Apple’s App Store worldwide after Apple found child sexual abuse material shared by one user. The messaging app returned the same day after Telegram removed the content and banned the account responsible.

According to Reuters’ August 4 report, Telegram was briefly unavailable on Apple’s App Store globally after Apple reported that one user had shared child sexual abuse material, commonly referred to as CSAM.
An Apple spokesperson confirmed that the company’s review had found content violating its guidelines against CSAM.
“The app was subsequently restored after the developer promptly removed the content and banned the user who posted it,” the spokesperson said.
The removal and restoration both happened on the same day. The temporary delisting affected the app’s availability for new downloads through Apple’s marketplace, while Android availability was not part of the enforcement action.
Telegram is currently available again on Apple’s App Store, where it is listed for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.
Telegram responded to Apple’s decision by questioning whether the same enforcement standard would be applied to every other application on the App Store.

“I’m sure this stance will be applied equally to all other apps in the store, in the future, right? Apple,” Telegram said in a post cited by Reuters.
Telegram says it has a zero-tolerance policy toward child sexual abuse material. The company claimed it had blocked nearly 338,000 groups and channels associated with such material during 2026.
The incident was not the first time Apple had temporarily removed Telegram over prohibited content. Apple also suspended the application in 2018 before restoring it after Telegram introduced additional safeguards.
However, the latest removal was temporary, not a permanent ban. Telegram took action against the reported content and account, after which Apple restored the application.
