Overall Rating
One of the most prized characteristics of artificial intelligence (AI) and generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) technology and tools is that it enables quick responses that save time, boost productivity and enhance operational efficiency.

This is why it’s found major use cases in the healthcare industry, as it frees up clinicians’ time to focus on more pressing medical matters.

Among the various startups entering the arena to revolutionize the healthcare industry is Suki, a Redwood City, California-based AI company that aims to “bring joy back to medicine”.

As a leader in AI technology for the healthcare sector, the company has consistently proved its worth with its products and services, which has seen it grow at an exponential rate.

This has led to over a dozen major health systems and hospitals deploying or expanding access to Suki in the last two months alone.

Now, the company has come forth with some further exciting news.

What Did Suki Announce?

Through a news release published on its website, Suki revealed that it managed to raise $70 million in new funding in a Series D round, taking its total capital funding to $165 million.

The funding round was led by Hedosophia and included investments from Venrock, in addition to existing investors March Capital, Flare Capital, Breyer Capital and inHealth Ventures.

The move comes as the company displays its powerful capabilities across its Suki Assistant, its healthcare-focused AI assistant and Suki Platform, which enables its partners to build AI experiences within their solutions.

The large investments also come on the back of boosted confidence in its health system and electronic health record (EHR) partnerships and collaborations.

These include tie-ups with Epic, Oracle Cerner, MEDITECH and Athena.

As per the release, Suki’s mission is to make healthcare technology invisible and assistive with an AI platform that powers the industry.

What Will Suki Use The New Funding For?

The investment will help Suki invest in commercial initiatives, accelerate product development and expand its leadership team.

Suki also plans to use the new funding to accelerate its product development, focusing on expanding beyond its core offerings, Suki Assistant and Suki Platform.

Suki Assistant is an AI assistant that streamlines administrative tasks for clinicians and helps them save time by generating notes, taking dictation, simplifying coding and retrieving chart data from EHRs.

Suki Platform offers a suite of developer tools for technology partners looking to build AI experiences in their solutions.

The platform augments existing workflows and accommodates pre-charting and also integrates live chart data like vitals, improving note-taking and patient instruction generation, which has led to a 70%+ adoption rate.

It also increases documentation quality, improves clinician well-being and enhances revenue capture.

With this funding, Suki aims to enhance its existing products and explore new opportunities in AI-driven healthcare solutions.

Punit Soni, CEO and founder of Suki, said, “We are in a new phase of growth. The healthcare industry is clamoring for AI and we are proud to offer a suite of full-featured solutions that seamlessly interoperate with existing tools. With the support of our investors, we’ll accelerate our growth, diversify Suki’s capabilities, and deepen relationships with strategic partners such as MedStar Health, one of the most important collaborators in Suki’s history.”

Ahead of this, Suki’s partnership with MedStar Health, a $7.7 billion health system with more than 300 care locations, brings its AI-powered Suki Assistant to thousands of clinicians, helping reduce time spent on clinical documentation across various specialties.

Suki Assistant integrates with leading EHRs, including Oracle Cerner, MedStar Health's system of record, and supports clinician well-being by streamlining administrative tasks.

Suki has also formed partnerships with other healthcare organizations, including Ascension Saint Thomas, Amwell, and Premier, expanding its presence across the healthcare ecosystem.

Do you think such large investments in healthcare-focused AI startups will set off a chain reaction of investments in the sector?
