Spotify’s Playlist & Shuffle Updates, WhatsApp’s About Feature, Comet For Android & More
Updated on Mon, Nov 24, 2025
Yet, their extended capabilities and efficient mobile nature allow developers to produce diverse applications for various purposes. From social media to communication, from navigation to instant messaging, from large music playlists to large language models (AI chatbots), smartphones have got users hooked.
At the same time, Gen Z is opting to switch to dumbphones. Why?
However, to offer advanced capabilities that further boost ease of convenience, developers must ensure their apps are updated regularly with the latest features—which is what Spotify, WhatsApp, Perplexity, and Google just brought to their users.
Spotify Updates Its Playlist Features
You’ve made a rad playlist, but now you can’t hear it on Spotify? Who’s going to open the app and start all over?
Luckily, you don’t have to do that anymore!
Spotify just revealed its latest TuneMyMusic integration that allows users to easily transfer playlists from other streaming services straight into their Spotify library, avoiding the need to start from scratch.
Not just that, Spotify’s personalization engine can learn from a user’s imported playlists, offering them recommendations that the engine can tailor swiftly.
The update came as part of a slew of updates: Users can leverage a suite of creative tools to collaborate with friends on shared playlists and share playlists through the platform’s Messages feature, design custom cover art, mix playlist transitions, and use Smart Filters to sort their library by mood, genre, or activity.
Spotify is also bringing Lossless—its highest sound quality yet—to Premium listeners.
The music streaming giant also spoke about improvements to its shuffle feature: Users will hear fewer repeated tracks, while Premium users can toggle off Smart Shuffle and can switch to Standard Shuffle, and Free and Premium users can play any song without reshuffling the queue.
For those who love audiobooks but can’t seem to find the time (or anyone, really), Spotify unveiled Audiobook Recaps (currently in Beta), which offers short audio summaries based on a user’s most recent listening point.
WhatsApp’s About Shares What’s Up With A User
WhatsApp announced it was introducing...err...reintroducing About, a feature that allows users to share what they’re up to.
“For those days when you’re free one minute but busy the next—About can tell others why you can’t talk or what you do want to talk about with just an emoji and a short phrase,” read WhatsApp’s blog post.
About was actually the company’s first feature, coming even before private and secure messaging!
The return of About comes with improvements that make it more visible, timely, and easier to use. It can be spotted on top of 1-1 chats and on a user’s profile. About updates last 24 hours by default, but can be set for a custom limit. Users can decide who sees their Abouts and can reply directly to others’ Abouts.
Essentially, it’s similar to Instagram’s Notes feature and will be available to everyone on mobile devices.
Perplexity’s Comet For Android
Perplexity’s AI-powered browser, Comet, hits Android devices!
As per the company, the world’s first truly AI-native browser that is used by millions of people every day to “have more focus when they browse, get more done with the Comet Assistant, and ask more questions wherever they are” is finally being launched for Android.
This brings Android users Comet Assistant, which includes a personal AI assistant that’s one tap away.
They can also use Voice Mode, which enables users to chat with the assistant to find information across tabs, summarize searches, and block out spam and pop-ups with its built-in ad blocker.
Gemini’s Global Rollout To Android Auto
As per Google, Android Auto is available in over 250 million vehicles on the road.
Now, all of them are set to get Gemini on their navigation devices.
Over the coming months, Google will replace its Google Assistant with Gemini in Android Auto. This will be available for users who have upgraded from Google Assistant to Gemini on their phones.
The integration of Google’s capable AI will allow users to speak naturally with their Android Auto devices and have back-and-forth conversations.
Moreover, they can send and edit messages through dictation, translating them into over 40 languages.
Users can also leverage insights from reviews to add the perfect stop spot on their journeys, answer common questions, check and reply to emails, create playlists, learn and ideate, and check Google Calendar, Google Tasks, Google Keep, Samsung Calendar, Samsung Reminder and Samsung Notes—all using Gemini and its conversational capabilities.
What do you think about the new updates by Spotify, WhatsApp, Perplexity’s Comet, and Google’s Android Auto?
