SLB And TotalEnergies Partner For Next-Gen Digital Solutions
Updated on Mon, Jul 8, 2024
This is where SLB, a global technology company that drives energy innovation for a balanced planet, comes into the picture, by delivering innovative and scalable digital solutions, decarbonizing industries and developing new energy systems.
Joining SLB in this cause is TotalEnergies, a global integrated energy company that produces and markets energy solutions, including oil, biofuels, natural gas, green gases, renewables and electricity, which comes in the form of a long-term partnership between the two companies.
So, what did the two companies reveal? Let’s explore!
What Is The Partnership Between SLB And TotalEnergies About?
-
Through a news release published on its website, SLB announced that it is partnering with TotalEnergies (press release) over a 10-year collaboration that will see the two companies co-develop digital solutions to enable access to energy resources.
-
The partnership includes designing scalable solutions to deliver improved performance and efficiency.
-
This will be done by integrating and leveraging advanced digital capabilities such as artificial intelligence (AI), new and existing applications from SLB’s digital platform portfolio and more.
-
Additionally, the solutions will ensure adherence to the Open Group’s OSDU (originally an acronym for Open Subsurface Data Universe) Technical Standard, which consists of leveraging open-source software, agile methods and global collaboration between competitors, suppliers and customers.
-
The partnership creates a flexible framework enabling the two companies to work together on addressing key challenges in the energy value chain and includes carbon capture, utilization and sequestration (CCUS).
-
Sequestration refers to the process of capturing, segregating and storing carbon in a carbon pool in an attempt to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
-
The two companies will pool their digital and domain expertise to boost scalable digital solutions aimed at benefiting TotalEnergies’ global operations and SLB’s worldwide customer base.
-
The initial focus will be on reservoir engineering and geoscience modeling and interpretation, which will be driven by AI and automation.
What Did SLB And TotalEnergies Executives Say?
-
Rakesh Jaggi, President of SLB’s Digital & Integration business, said, “Collaboration and knowledge sharing are key for our industry to continuously develop more effective ways of unlocking energy access.”
-
[Contd.] “With this visionary partnership, we’re combining the know-how and expertise of both companies to accelerate the delivery of new digital capabilities that will benefit the whole industry.”
-
Namita Shah, President, OneTech at TotalEnergies, said, “We are delighted to develop our multi-energy partnerships with SLB through solarization of SLB’s industrial sites and digital innovation that will allow us to develop cutting-edge next-generation software, digital applications and new algorithms applied to geoscience.”
-
[Contd.] “Thanks to these innovative modeling technologies, we will better utilize the analyses of geological reservoirs and basins in the Oil & Gas sector to reduce emissions and we will progress in geological carbon storage.”
What Other Announcements Did SLB Make?
-
Following the announcement of the 10-year partnership between SLB and TotalEnergies, SLB revealed that it had been awarded a contract by TotalEnergies for a 13-well Subsea Production System scope, as part of its Kaminho project, located offshore Angola.
-
The contract was handed to a joint venture between SLB (70%), Aker Solutions (20%) and Subsea7 (10%) called OneSubSea, an initiative to accelerate innovation, reduce emissions and enhance production economics in subsea operations.
-
Prior to this, SLB announced the closing of its Carbon Capture joint venture with Aker Carbon Capture (ACC), aimed at supporting “accelerated carbon capture adoption for industrial decarbonization at scale.”
-
On the same day, SLB published a news release announcing the awarding of a contract from Equinor for the front-end engineering design (FEED) of a 12-well, all-electric Subsea Production Systems (SPS) project, located offshore Norway.
Do you think all these moves by SLB will help it boost its position in the energy sector? Do you think its competitors should make similar moves?
