As a result, companies are looking to partner with technology companies to modernize their IT infrastructure and drive innovation to optimize business processes and offer improved customer service to gain a competitive advantage and better business outcomes.
In this regard, Red Hat, the world’s leading provider of open-source solutions, announced a new collaboration with Globe Telecom, a publicly listed and leading full-service telecommunications company in the Philippines, to modernize its IT infrastructure to foster enhanced agility and scalability.
So, what details did the two companies provide about their new collaboration? Let’s explore!
What Is The Red Hat And Globe Telecom Collaboration About?
-
Through a news release published on its website, Red Hat announced that it will be collaborating with Globe to modernize the latter’s IT infrastructure.
-
This will be done by using Red Hat Open Innovation Labs, which will offer greater agility, scalability and innovation to help Globe improve its operations and customer experiences.
-
The move also saw Globe engineers work with Red Hat to gain experience in Open Innovations Lab and integrate open-source technologies such as Red Hat OpenShift, which is a leading hybrid cloud application platform in the industry.
-
The collaboration also helped them explore DevOps methodologies and innovative practices to help Globe tackle challenges in operational efficiency, developer productivity, observability, upskilling and cross-team collaboration.
-
Additionally, Globe migrated its first application modules to Red Hat OpenShift faster, enabling a complete migration of the first full application to Red Hat OpenShift over the next six months.
-
Furthermore, it also helped them gain expertise in its features, create a cross-functional team and establish new operational processes.
-
Other benefits included cutting test execution time by 80% using automation, 75% faster resource provisioning through zero-touch provisioning, self-healing and auto-scaling, zero downtime cluster upgrades for high availability and paving the way for faster AI-enabled application development and deployment in the future.
-
“As Globe continues its transition from a traditional telecom company to a technology-driven enterprise, the adoption of Red Hat OpenShift provides the foundation for their ultimate goal of providing better customer experiences through a resilient, stable application platform”
-
According to a Form 17-C filing by Globe Telecom with the Securities and Exchange Commission in Philippines, the company signed term loan facilities with China Banking Corporation, Land Bank of the Philippines and Metropolitan Bank & Trust Company for ₱10 Billion ($177 million), ₱5 Billion ($88 million) and ₱7 Billion (124 million) respectively.
-
This funding will help the company finance this move along with a wide range of requirements, including capital expenditure, debt refinancing and corporate requirements.

What Did Red Hat And Globe Executives Say?
-
Raul Macatangay, Chief Information Officer, Globe, said, “Our collaboration with Red Hat Open Innovation Labs has been instrumental in our digital transformation journey. By adopting Red Hat OpenShift as a new enterprise-wide application development platform, we're able to innovate quicker with a key focus on customer experience.”
