OpenAI broke the internet yet again on 23rd January when Microsoft decided to invest billions in OpenAI! We know what you're thinking: "How big of an investment?" Well, it's multi-year and multi-billion. So, yeah — pretty big.

As per reports, Microsoft hopes that by adding OpenAI's capabilities to its software offerings, it will have the edge over competitors ranging from Salesforce to Google. According to analysts, ChatGPT could give Microsoft a significant edge over Alphabet's Google Search by providing users with easy-to-understand and conversational answers to their search queries.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in a statement, "We formed our partnership with OpenAI around a shared ambition to responsibly advance cutting-edge AI research and democratize AI as a new technology platform." Microsoft's latest move to invest billions more in OpenAI has been described as "a game changer."

In a statement released by OpenAI, the company said, "Microsoft's investment will enable it to develop and research AI that is increasingly safe, useful, and powerful. Azure's unique architectural design has been crucial in delivering best-in-class performance and scale for our AI training and inference workloads," said OpenAI. "Microsoft will increase their investment in these systems to accelerate our independent research and Azure will remain the exclusive cloud provider for all OpenAI workloads across our research, API and products."
