Artificial intelligence (AI) sector contender Perplexity is trying to achieve the goal of overcoming its rivals by making smart moves and putting in the work—just like how soccer stalwart Cristiano Ronaldo does on the ground, and in life.

To this effect, Perplexity and Cristiano Ronaldo announced a global partnership.

“The quest for excellence means never settling for good enough. Ronaldo’s approach to life mirrors Perplexity’s philosophy that every achievement, every answer, is a starting point for the next question,” read Perplexity’s release.

Cristiano Ronaldo holds the most followers on platforms such as Instagram (668 million followers) and Facebook (171 million followers).

CR7, who is a dedicated Perplexity user, which he uses in “high-stakes moments, including award speeches and major announcements,” will act as more than just a brand ambassador for the company.

Through the tie-up, Perplexity is launching a Cristiano Ronaldo hub, which provides users with an interactive experience where fans can explore his career, see rare images, browse curated questions, relive iconic goals, and dig into the stories behind them.

Perplexity plans to add more content, experiences, and exclusive merchandise soon.

Ahead of this, Cristiano Ronaldo has also become an investor in Perplexity.

Summarizing CR7’s award-studded career (so far), Perplexity said, “Cristiano Ronaldo represents discipline, consistency, and reinvention across every stage of his career. He is more than football’s all‑time leading goal scorer. He has shattered records in the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, and the Saudi Pro League, winning league titles, Champions League trophies, and major honors with Portugal.”

Perplexity also announced the release of BrowseSafe, which the company describes as an open research benchmark and content detection model.

The idea is to keep users safe as they navigate the agentic web.

“As AI assistants move from search boxes into the browser itself, we expect the next generation of the web to shift from pages to agents: less about where information lives, and more about who retrieves and acts on it.”

BrowseSafe will keep users and agents safe by scanning through content in real time.

Essentially, it’s a model that’s designed to answer one key question: given a page’s HTML, does it contain malicious instructions aimed at the agent?

Since BrowseSafe and BrowseSafe-Bench are fully open-source, it allows developers to build safer autonomous agents by protecting them against prompt injection, cutting out the need to build safety rails from scratch.

Prompt injections consist of malicious commands embedded in the text that AI reads, designed to override its original intent.

Perplexity also published the first large-scale study of how people actually use AI agents in the real world, a study that was conducted by researchers from Perplexity and Harvard.

The study answered three main questions: Who is adopting AI agents? How intensively are they using them? And what tasks are they delegating to their AI assistants?

It included analyzing hundreds of millions of anonymized interactions from Comet and Comet Assistant users.

While agents are used for booking hotels or handling rote chores, the researchers noted that 57% of all agent activity focuses on cognitive work.

“This study provides the first empirical proof that we are moving toward a hybrid intelligence economy,” said Perplexity. “The dominance of cognitive tasks in our data suggests that AI agents are scaling human cognitive work. As these tools mature, we expect the "stickiness" of productivity tasks to deepen.”

Do you think Perplexity’s partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo will inspire other AI companies to partner with other leading athletes and celebrities?
