As the wonders of artificial intelligence (AI) and generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) continue to impress organizations across various industries, AI technology is finding its way into critical national security missions, intelligence workloads and defense operations.

This comes courtesy of an extended partnership between Palantir Technologies, a specialist in software platforms for big data analytics and multinational technology company Microsoft Corporation.

What Is The Extended Partnership Between Palantir Technologies And Microsoft About?

 
  • Through news releases published on their websites, Palantir Technologies and Microsoft announced a significant advancement in their partnership that aims to bring highly sophisticated and secure cloud, AI and analytics capabilities to the US Defense and Intelligence Community.

  • This first-of-its-kind offering will see the two companies deliver an integrated suite of technology enabling United States defense and intelligence agencies to use Microsoft’s advanced large language models (LLMs) through Azure OpenAI Service within Palantir’s AI Platforms (AIP) in Microsoft’s government and classified cloud environments.

  • It will also see Palantir deploy its flagship products (Foundry, Gotham, Apollo and AIP) in Microsoft Azure Government and in the Azure Government Secret (DoD Impact Level 6) and Top Secret clouds.

  • Palantir will also be authorized to deploy its Palantir Federal Cloud Service (consisting of Gotham, Foundry, AIP, Apollo and FedStart Mission Manager Platforms) on Microsoft Azure for IL5 environments.

  • Palantir will also become an early adopter of Azure’s OpenAI Service in Microsoft’s Secret and Top Secret environments.

  • The move will enable operators to safely and responsibly build AI-driven workloads for logistics, contracting, prioritization, action planning and more.

  • As per the release, “Palantir’s Foundry’s data integration and ontology capabilities and AIP’s use case building capabilities will enable operators to safely and responsibly build AI-driven operational workloads across Defense and Intelligence verticals.”

  • The two companies will also the Defense and Intelligence Community with “bootcamp experience” training to trial the technology.

  • The move builds on the two companies’ long history of operating in secure and accredited environments delivering technology for crucial US Defense and Intelligence missions.

  • Shyam Sankar, Chief Technology Officer, Palantir, said, “Bringing Palantir and Microsoft capabilities to our national security apparatus is a step change in how we can support the defense and intelligence communities.”

  • [Contd.] “Palantir AIP has pioneered the approach to operationalizing AI value – beyond chat — across the enterprise. It’s our mission to deliver this software advantage and we’re thrilled to be the first industry partner to deploy Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service in classified environments.”

  • Deb Cupp, President of Microsoft Americas, said, “This expanded partnership between Microsoft and Palantir will help accelerate the safe, secure and responsible deployment of advanced AI capabilities for the U.S. government.”

  • [Contd.] “Palantir, a leader in delivering actionable insights to government, will now leverage the power of Microsoft’s government and classified clouds and robust Azure OpenAI models to further develop AI innovations for national security missions.”
