How often do you find yourself scrolling through 10-second videos, losing sense of time? It’s a bit too much to handle that sometimes, right?

Well, in today’s world, short video clips can influence people faster than words ever could.

Today, the way we tell stories online is being rewritten, especially with AI tools driving video generation. Now, OpenAI’s latest app, Sora 2, is right at the center of the spotlight.

Not just videos, OpenAI is on a roll with a slate of new announcements that span commerce, user safety, copyright media, and more.

So, what all did OpenAI announce as its latest updates? Let’s explore!

What Did OpenAI Reveal About Sora App?

On October 1, 2025, OpenAI unveiled Sora 2, its new advanced video generation model, available as a standalone iOS app with a feed where users can create, remix and share short AI-generated videos.

The app adopts a TikTok-style vertical video format, giving users swipeable feeds of AI-generated clips with options for creative remixing and verified “cameos,” allowing verified users to feature themselves in AI-generated content.

OpenAI’s spotlight remains firmly on product innovation, with Sora 2 leading the charge in reshaping how people create and consume AI-driven content.

Sora 2 represents a leap in AI video generation, with improved realism, physics, synchronized dialogue and sound effects compared to earlier versions. The Sora app lets users generate, remix and discover videos, with a focus on creativity over endless consumption.

Teen protections are also a core focus, with default limits for minors, strict cameo rules, scaled human moderation, and integration with parental controls for safer usage.

OpenAI plans a tiered access model: basic Sora 2 is free initially, with compute limits. A more advanced Sora 2 Pro will be offered to ChatGPT Pro subscribers and later via the API.

For now, the app is available in invite-only beta on iOS in the U.S. and Canada, with wider availability expected soon.

With new creative tools, the AI startup is also focused on responsibilities, and OpenAI addressed these head-on with policies around copyright and user safety.

How Will OpenAI Handle Copyright And Safety?

OpenAI confirmed it will allow copyrighted content to appear in Sora generations by default, unless rights holders file an opt-out, sparking a debate in Hollywood and publishing circles.

Public figure likenesses remain off-limits unless authorized, maintaining a layer of content protection.

To further address child safety concerns, OpenAI launched new parental controls for ChatGPT, so linked parent-teen accounts can:

  • Restrict sensitive content

  • Limit access to certain features like voice and image generation

  • Set “quiet hours”

  • Receive notifications in high-risk situations

Importantly, parents will not have access to full chat transcripts, ensuring a balance between safety and privacy.

While policy shifts and safety controls make headlines, the financial trajectory reveals just how strongly OpenAI is scaling its business.

What Does This Mean For OpenAI?

Beyond product rollouts like Sora 2 and safety features like parental controls for ChatGPT, OpenAI’s financials point to sustained growth.

In the first half of 2025, the company’s revenue climbed ~16% to $4.3 billion, according to reports. This momentum underscores how OpenAI is diversifying its revenue streams beyond subscriptions to include social media-style platforms, checkout payment integrations, and broader business integrations.

Do you think OpenAI’s Sora 2 app, new commerce integrations and safety features will help it strengthen its position in the crowded AI content space? Will it be able to set new standards for teenage interactions with AI content?
