OpenAI is expanding its European operations with a new Dublin headquarters and 250 additional jobs, more than tripling its Irish workforce as demand for ChatGPT and the company’s business-focused AI services continues to grow across the region.

OpenAI is strengthening its presence in Europe by establishing a new home for its European Union headquarters in Dublin and creating 250 jobs over the next two years.
According to IDA Ireland’s official announcement, the company has leased the Tropical Fruit Warehouse in Dublin’s Docklands. The 88,000-square-foot site will support OpenAI’s expanding workforce, customer engagement, developer collaboration, and product demonstrations.
OpenAI currently employs more than 100 people in Ireland. Reuters reported that the planned recruitment drive will increase its Dublin workforce to around 350 employees, representing a more than threefold increase from its current headcount.
The new jobs will span go-to-market and sales teams, engineering, user operations, human resources, finance, privacy, legal, corporate security, and workplace functions. OpenAI plans to move into the Tropical Fruit Warehouse in late 2026.
“We continue to invest and grow in Ireland as we meet increasing demand across the region,” said Emma Redmond, Associate General Counsel and Head of OpenAI Ireland.
“Our new EU headquarters reflects our long-term commitment, helping businesses, developers and communities benefit from our innovation,” added Redmond.
RTÉ reported that the expansion is intended to meet rapidly growing demand from users, customers, and developers throughout Europe. The Irish broadcaster also highlighted that the headquarters will support OpenAI’s continued growth in the region.
OpenAI first established its Dublin presence in 2023, making the city an important base for operations, trust and safety, security, legal work, and customer-facing teams across Europe.
Since then, the company’s local presence has expanded significantly. IDA Ireland said the number of ChatGPT users in Ireland has surpassed one million, while Irish businesses use OpenAI’s technology for coding, product development, customer service, and revenue growth.
Why Is OpenAI Expanding In Dublin?
The Next Web noted that the expansion arrives as Ireland experiences contrasting trends across its technology sector.
While OpenAI and rival AI developer Anthropic are hiring in Dublin, established technology companies, including Meta and TikTok, have announced reductions in their Irish operations. The publication described Dublin as an increasingly important concentration point for frontier AI talent and European AI operations.
Reuters reported that multinational technology and pharmaceutical companies employ around 11% of Ireland’s workforce. Dublin is already home to major European operations belonging to Alphabet, Meta, and Microsoft, supported by the country’s educated workforce, access to the European market, and established technology ecosystem.
“Ireland’s talent base and strong research ecosystem puts us in a strong position to take advantage of the AI revolution for the benefit of citizens and businesses alike,” said Taoiseach Micheál Martin.
“In a short time, OpenAI has built a talented team which anchored the company here,” he added.
OpenAI also plans to build on its OpenAI for Ireland program, which helps young developers, startups, and small and medium-sized businesses develop AI skills and gain practical experience with the technology.
