Overall Rating
The AI space is moving fast, and things can change quickly. A company that looks like a clear leader today can start facing pressure as competition grows. As more businesses adopt AI, investors are paying closer attention to real growth, revenue, and long-term potential.

TL;DR

  • OpenAI faces investor concerns over its $852B valuation.
  • Anthropic surges to $30B revenue, gaining strong market momentum.
  • Investors shift focus as Anthropic demand rises and OpenAI trades at a discount.

OpenAI is beginning to face concerns from some of its own investors, as its $852 billion valuation is starting to feel hard to defend. A big reason for this is the fast growth of Anthropic, which is quickly gaining momentum in the market.

Anthropic’s growth has been significant. Its annualized revenue jumped from $9 billion at the end of 2025 to $30 billion by March, largely driven by demand for its AI coding tools. This sharp rise has made its $380 billion valuation look more reasonable in comparison, especially as enterprise demand continues to increase.

The difference in investor sentiment is also visible in the secondary market. Demand for Anthropic shares has grown rapidly, while OpenAI shares are trading at a discount. This suggests that investors are starting to reassess where they see stronger future value.

Some investors believe that supporting OpenAI at its current valuation would require assuming a future IPO valuation of $1.2 trillion or more. That’s a high expectation, and not everyone is convinced it can be achieved in the near term.

OpenAI, however, continues to defend its position. CFO Sarah Friar pointed out that the company’s $122 billion fundraising round, the largest private fundraising in history, reflects continued investor confidence.

Some industry voices remain cautious. Jai Das, president of Sapphire Ventures, described OpenAI as “the Netscape of AI,” referring to Netscape, a company that was once dominant but later lost its lead.

For now, OpenAI remains a major player in the AI space. Yet with Anthropic’s rapid growth and changing investor sentiment, the competition is clearly increasing, and the future leadership of the AI market is far from certain.
