Meta Is Here With Meta AI For Its Apps And Its Newest AI Model, Llama 3

As companies look to build a strong position in the artificial intelligence (AI) and generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) markets, they continue to update their products and services with the latest capabilities.

Keeping to this thought, Meta has come up with two announcements regarding its GenAI offerings, which include its latest large language model (LLM) and its new AI assistant.

What Did Meta Announce?

 
  • In a blog post published on its website, Meta announced Llama 3, calling it the “most capable openly available LLM to date”.

  • “Today, we’re excited to share the first two models of the next generation of Llama, Meta Llama 3, available for broad use,” reads the first line of the blog post.

  • As per the company, Llama 3, Meta’s next generation of its state-of-the-art open-source large language model, has been developed in a responsible way and comes with various resources to ensure its responsible use.

  • This includes new trust and safety tools with Llama Guard 2, Code Shield and CyberSec Eval 2.

  • Meta plans to upgrade the offering in the coming months.

  • The anticipated upgrades consist of introducing new capabilities, making it multilingual and multimodal, longer context windows, additional model sizes, enhanced performances and sharing the Llama 3 research paper.

  • Improvements made by Meta in the model architecture, pretraining, post-training and instruction fine-tuning have helped reduce false refusal rates, improved alignment and increased diversity in model responses.

  • Additionally, the new model witnesses “greatly improved capabilities like reasoning, code generation, and instruction following making Llama 3 more steerable.”

  • Llama 3 will soon be available on AWS, Databricks, Google Cloud, Hugging Face, Kaggle, IBM WatsonX, Microsoft Azure, NVIDIA NIM and Snowflake and with support from hardware platforms offered by AMD, AWS, Dell, Intel, NVIDIA and Qualcomm.

What Is Meta’s New AI Assistant?

 
  • In a news release published on its website, Meta announced Meta AI, its new AI assistant.

  • Meta AI has been built using Meta Llama 3 and will be available on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger “to get things done, learn, create and connect with the things that matter”.

  • The improvements made to Meta AI include a faster image generator, which can produce images in real-time, i.e., at the same time a user types and changes with every few letters typed.

  • Generated images are also now sharper, of higher quality and offer a better ability to include text.

  • First announced at Meta’s Connect held on September 27, 2023, the company is now rolling out Meta AI in English to countries outside of the US, which includes Australia, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and more.

  • The rollout includes Meta releasing meta.ai, its website counterpart.

  • This tool can even help users make work emails sound more professional and can even save conversations for future reference.

  • Meta AI will also be available for Facebook users when they’re scrolling through their feed, enabling users to ask the assistant for more information right from the post.

  • Meta’s extended plan includes integrating the AI assistant in the US on Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and will come to Meta Quest soon.

  • Meta AI will also include web search results from Google Search and Microsoft Bing, bringing real-time knowledge into its answers.

  • Through the news release, Meta said, “With our most powerful large language model under the hood, Meta AI is better than ever. We’re excited to share our next-generation assistant with even more people and can’t wait to see how it enhances people’s lives.”
