Guess what's cooking in the tech world?

Qualcomm recently spilled the beans on their new PC laptop chip, sizzling with AI features!

Processors, connection solutions, displays, software and charging items are just some of the many innovations that Qualcomm, the American semiconductor corporation, has brought to the world.
In 2022, Qualcomm spent $8.2 billion on R&D as the company invested heavily in the future of wireless communications, as per Statista reports. The Snapdragon suite of system-on-chip (SoC) integrated circuits was developed by Qualcomm as innovations to revolutionize mobile handsets and other wireless devices.

Qualcomm has developed a new processors that promise to outperform Apple's SoCs to maintain their market dominance and expand their customer base.  Wait what?

Well, Qualcomm announced its new chip for Windows laptops on Tuesday, October 24th, boasting that it will be faster than Apple's chips for Mac computers, which is a big claim from the company.

Executives from Qualcomm have stated that the company's new Snapdragon Elite X CPU will be available in laptops soon and that it has been built to better handle artificial intelligence activities, including email summarization, producing prose and generating graphics.

Companies such as Alphabet's Google and Meta, both of which announced their intentions to use these AI features on Tuesday, will be included in Qualcomm's chips for smartphones.

The news dropped only one day after Reuters revealed Microsoft had pushed chipmakers Qualcomm, Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices to develop hardware capable of running the slew of new artificial intelligence technologies built into Windows. After all, Windows is the most widely used desktop OS in the world and will need AI functionalities to stay relevant.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella made a video appearance at Qualcomm's presentation and claimed the company's new processors would usher in a new era of "AI PCs" for businesses and consumers.

“The work we're doing together, it's going to bring together these experiences that cannot be done without a new system architecture," Nadella said.

What Are The Benefits Of The New Qualcomm Chips?

Since Apple’s iPhone manufacturer released custom-designed chips in 2020, Apple's market share for laptops and desktop computers has more than doubled. Qualcomm will be the first to market with a chip to take on Apple.

Qualcomm announced that the X Elite is more powerful and efficient than Apple's M2 Max processor and Intel's PC chips. However, according to Qualcomm's senior vice president, Alex Katouzian, the chip's most innovative feature is its ability to process artificial intelligence models with as much as 13 billion parameters.

Analyst Francis Sideco from TIRIAS Research predicts a spike in demand for laptops with AI capabilities because of the widespread adoption of generative AI tools. For instance, Adobe's solutions that utilize AI to generate pictures for everything from real estate brochures to beer can labels. "You've got a lot of smaller businesses and individual designers and creators using these devices. They need that kind of (AI) capability," Sideco said.

As Qualcomm unveils its latest laptop chip, boasting high processing power and AI wizardry, will it ignite a fiery tech duel? Can Microsoft challenge Apple for the throne with this Qualcomm partnership?
