Intel And Arm Partner To Help Startups Innovate In The AI Era!
Updated on Tue, Mar 26, 2024
The issue arises though for smaller businesses and startups looking to use such technology and infrastructure to enhance their offerings as the cost of purchasing, building and maintaining the chips that power the technology are rather expensive.
Additionally, to gain the best value from the technology and compete with rivals, businesses need to keep updating their infrastructure with the latest chips on offer.
The high costs of the technology are what Intel and Arm are looking to resolve with their latest partnership.
So, what are Intel and Arm doing and how will it benefit startups? Let’s explore!
What Did The Two Companies Announce?
-
As per a news release by Intel, the company has signed an MoU (memorandum of understanding) with Arm to finalize their initial plan of creating a collaboration supporting the startup community and “help startups bring their bold ideas to life” through their Emerging Business Initiative.
-
The initiative will see the companies jointly provide essential intellectual property (IP) and manufacturing support, enabling innovation and growth for startups developing devices and servers built on Arm-based SoCs (system-on-chips) and manufactured by Intel Foundry.
-
Furthermore, it will also provide financial assistance where needed.
-
As per the release, the initiative was first announced last month at Intel Foundry Direct Connect in San Jose, California.
-
This agreement builds on the previous collaboration of April 2023, which would allow chip designers to build low-power compute system-on-chips (SoCs) on the Intel 18A process.
-
Post that, the companies also announced an agreement in August 2023 aimed to propel the development and implementation of Arm-based SoCs on the Intel 10 nanometer process.
-
Other than these agreements, the two companies have been working together for years to develop and empower the ecosystem.
-
As per the release, “AI is transforming every aspect of how people work and live. Just as mobile and cloud computing drove waves of innovation and new businesses, the AI era opens verdant, uncharted territory for new companies to innovate, create new business models and deliver unprecedented value to end users.”
-
[Contd.] “But AI can only realize its true potential if everyone has access to it, so Intel and Arm are collaborating on the Emerging Business Initiative to open doors for new companies to bring their bold ideas to life.”
What Did Stakeholders Say?
-
Stuart Pann, Intel Senior Vice President and General Manager of Foundry Services, said, “Intel Foundry and Arm share the belief that for technology to benefit everyone, the building blocks of innovation must be available to anyone. Startups play a crucial role in bringing the great promise of transformations like AI to reality.”
-
[Contd.] “The Emerging Business Initiative provides a path for new companies to leverage leading-edge Arm-based SoCs and Intel Foundry’s global manufacturing capabilities to make their ideas real.”
-
Rene Haas, Chief Executive Officer of Arm, said, “AI growth depends on giant leaps in compute, efficiency and scalability, and our industry must create on-ramps for the startup community to share in these advancements.”
-
[Contd.] “Our collaboration with Intel Foundry through the Emerging Business Initiative enables the next generation of innovators to bring their ideas to life and define the next waves of breakthrough innovation.”
Do you think this move by Intel and Arm will help it gain goodwill with startups and smaller businesses looking to get into the AI space? Do you think it will help them grow their market share in the booming AI industry?
