As the automotive industry keeps on evolving, it’s adopting everything from automated AI systems that assist drivers in navigating complicated routes to solid state batteries to give electric vehicles a longer range and battery life.
This dynamic shift is highlighted by the latest announcements from tech leaders such as Horizon Robotics, Volkswagen, and Subaru, showcasing advancements in electric cars and intelligent driving system technology.
So, let's explore the latest developments that will make driving experiences smarter and more reliable. Dive in!
Horizon Robotics Launches Smart Driving System For Urban Roads
The field of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) is rapidly advancing, with Horizon Robotics, a Hong Kong-based pioneer in intelligent driving solutions, among the key players. The company recently unveiled its Horizon SuperDrive (HSD), a set of driving assistance technologies designed to improve driving in urban settings.
The Exeed model, Chery Automobile's premium SUV line, will be the first to utilize the HSD technology, with mass production anticipated to begin in September 2025. This collaboration is a major step ahead for Horizon Robotics as it expands its customer base and demonstrates its innovations.
Horizon's high-performance Journey 6 processing hardware powers the HSD system, supporting its intricate architecture that is precisely created to mimic human driving behaviors.
Utilizing advanced algorithms and the integration of data from several sensors, the HSD aims to provide a more secure and natural driving experience by supporting drivers with features like autonomous parking, adaptive speed control, and lane centering.
Understanding the varied demands of the car market, Horizon Robotics will provide the HSD system in three variations, making it simpler for automakers to include smart driving capabilities in all vehicles, from basic hatchbacks to premium luxury automobiles. This will allow more people to reap the benefits of Horizon Robotics’ latest ADAS technology.
As Horizon Robotics prepares to bring its smart driving system to market, it is also collaborating with an automotive giant to enhance its driver assistance technologies. Read on to know more about it.
Volkswagen To Help Horizon Robotics With ADAS Innovations
Horizon Robotics has further strengthened its position in the intelligent vehicle market through a strategic partnership with automotive giant Volkswagen, which made waves with its self-driving partnerships. This collaboration focuses on the combined development of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), marking a significant step forward in smart driving innovation.
Volkswagen's software unit, Cariad, and its joint venture with Horizon Robotics, Carizon, will spearhead the research and development for integrating Horizon's technologies into Volkswagen vehicles.
While the emphasis on smart driving technologies grows, the electric vehicle sector is also seeing some exciting improvements, as evidenced by Subaru's recent modifications to its flagship electric vehicle (EV).
Subaru Solterra Gets 25% More Range & Faster Charging For 2026
Subaru, well-known for its rugged and durable automobiles, is giving its first and only EV, the Solterra, a major revamp for the model year 2026. This update improves critical features like driving range, charging speed, and all-wheel-drive (AWD) performance, making the Solterra a more appealing alternative in the competitive EV market.
This update follows Toyota's BZ4X last month—built on the same e-TNGA platform—highlighting a joint push to make EVs more appealing.
With a larger 74.7 kWh battery, the Solterra's range has increased from 227 miles to an EPA-estimated 285 miles, a 25% jump. The Solterra can now be charged from 10 to 80 percent in "less than 35 minutes" using a 150kW charger, improving charging time.
With 233 horsepower for improved acceleration, the base variant of the Solterra now has more power. The 338-horsepower variant boasts a 0–60 mph time of less than five seconds, while the top-tier XT variant goes even faster.
The 2026 Solterra will also receive visual changes, including a flatter front bumper, new headlights and an illuminated logo, for a more refined aesthetic. With a larger 14-inch infotainment touchscreen, the EV will offer a more user-friendly and captivating interface. With the addition of two 15W wireless smartphone chargers and USB-C charging outlets, Subaru is addressing the connectivity requirements of drivers as well.
Later this year, Subaru EV drivers will have access to more than 15,000 Tesla Supercharger stations across North America, compatible with the 2026 Solterra's standard NACS (North American Charging Standard) connection, greatly increasing the charging options available.
The developments by Horizon Robotics, Volkswagen, and Subaru reflect an inflection point in the automotive and EV sector. The innovations aim to make driving safer, more efficient, and more frictionless with the combination of advanced AI-powered driving aid systems and the more efficient electric vehicle technologies.
Do you think these advancements in ADAS technologies and EV batteries can make driving safer and more efficient?
