Google has begun rolling out Gemini, its next-generation AI assistant, to the Google TV Streamer, officially replacing Google Assistant over the next few weeks. The rollout applies to users aged 18 and above, bringing conversational capabilities to the living room screen.
Unlike traditional voice assistants that rely on direct commands, Gemini lets users engage in natural, contextual dialogue. For instance, users can say, “I like dramas, but my wife likes comedies. What’s a movie we can watch together?” or “What happened at the end of Outlander last season?”

Accessing Gemini is simple. Users just need to press the microphone button on their remote.
The update follows Google’s earlier announcement introducing Gemini on select TCL TV models and the Walmart Onn 4K Pro streaming device.
According to Google, the shift is part of its broader strategy to replace Google Assistant with Gemini across all devices and platforms, moving toward a single conversational AI ecosystem.
A company spokesperson stated that Gemini for TV marks “a major step toward transforming television into a fully interactive experience that blends entertainment, learning, and exploration.”
While Google focuses on enhancing access and interactivity through Gemini, another major player in the information ecosystem is drawing clearer boundaries on how AI should access open data.
Wikipedia Urges AI Firms To Use Its Paid API And Stop Scraping
The Wikimedia Foundation, which operates Wikipedia, published an open note urging AI companies to use their paid Wikimedia Enterprise API instead of scraping the website’s free content.
The organization said that responsible use ensures proper attribution to human editors and prevents excessive server load from large-scale automated scraping.
Wikipedia revealed that its servers experienced unusually high traffic in May and June 2025, later traced to bots mimicking human behavior. Following the detection, the foundation found that human page views dropped 8% year-over-year.
“For people to trust information shared on the internet, platforms should make it clear where the information is sourced from,” the foundation wrote, highlighting the risk of fewer contributions and donations if volunteer traffic declines.
The Wikimedia Enterprise product offers large companies, including search engines and AI developers, structured access to Wikipedia data at scale, enabling them to support the encyclopedia’s nonprofit mission through paid use.
While the foundation didn’t issue threats of legal action, the move clearly signals an ethical shift toward sustainable AI training and proper crediting of open-knowledge contributors.
Earlier this year, Wikipedia introduced its AI strategy for editors, focusing on utilizing AI to assist with repetitive tasks and language translations.
With this statement, Wikipedia joins a growing list of open-data platforms calling for transparency and compensation in the age of AI.
Now, as AI continues to expand across creative, educational, and operational domains, Google isn’t slowing down either; its next move targets the world of geospatial intelligence.
Google Maps Rolls Out AI Tools For Developers And Interactive Projects
Google Maps Platform has unveiled a new suite of AI developer tools, powered by Gemini models, that enable the creation of interactive, data-driven map experiences.
The release includes a Builder Agent, which generates interactive prototypes directly from text prompts such as “Create a Street View tour of New York City” or “List pet-friendly hotels near me.”
Developers can then export, preview, or edit these prototypes in Firebase Studio using their own API keys.
A complementary Styling Agent helps brands customize map aesthetics, from color themes to interface layouts, enabling visual consistency across apps and websites.
The company has also launched a Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, which connects AI assistants directly to Google Maps documentation and data. This enables assistants to answer queries such as, “How far is the nearest grocery store?” or display results in Contextual View, which provides a list, map, or 3D visual.
Google refers to these updates as a “major step in democratizing geospatial AI,” enabling developers, startups, and brands to “build smarter, faster experiences.”
With Google expanding Gemini across devices and Wikipedia drawing ethical boundaries, AI’s future looks more integrated, yet more contested than ever.
