Digitalization in the age of globalization has made it possible for businesses to sell their products and services to customers anywhere in the world through Ecommerce platforms.

However, the one problem small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) face is the added cost of logistics. For example, a toy manufacturer from Lawrence, Kansas, USA may find the shipping costs of delivering toys to a purchaser in Singapore quite steep.

This is where global logistics company DHL comes in with a wide range of benefits for SMEs through a new program and its powerful software applications and platforms, including helping them ease the burden of high cargo transit costs and more.

So, let’s explore what benefits the logistics leader is bringing small businesses and medium enterprises!

What Is DHL Express’ New Program About?

  • Through a press release published on its website, DHL’s international express shipping arm DHL Express announced the launch of its Small Business PartnerSHIP Program.

  • The program will equip small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the United States with easy access to the resources and support needed to reach and grow in global markets, as well as a wide range of other benefits.

  • It will be provided to them at no extra cost.

  • The benefits include discounted shipping rates and shipping promo codes to reduce costs.

  • DHL will offer simplified shipping solutions such as the MyDHL+ shipping platform, the Global Trade Services (MyGTS) for guidance on international shipping regulations and the GoGreen Plus program to reduce carbon emissions associated with shipments.

  • Furthermore, they will gain access to trusted advice and education through the platform’s capable and expert Ecommerce guidance, mentorship, informative webinars and events, as well as dedicated support from Certified International Specialists.

  • DHL’s Discover site will bring them exposure to exclusive insights and tips for SMEs, industry trends and best practices to succeed in the challenging and ever-changing global trade landscape.

What Did DHL Express Say About Its Small Business PartnerSHIP Program?

  • Greg Hewitt, CEO of DHL Express in the US, said, “As the specialists in international, DHL has helped thousands of SMEs go global—whether entering their first international market or expanding to their 100th.”

  • “We are committed to empowering SMEs to maximize their potential and seize the unlimited opportunities international trade offers, which is why we developed the comprehensive Small Business PartnerSHIP program.”

  • “Now, our partners will have quick access to a centralized hub that offers specialized support, resources, and solutions, right at their fingertips.”

What Sprouted DHL Express’ Small Business PartnerSHIP Program?

  • A mid-year survey by DHL Express, which was published on the company’s website on June 13, 2024, found that SMEs remained optimistic about Ecommerce growth for the rest of the year, despite numerous challenges.

  • These included economic challenges such as inflation, global conflict and uncertainties in geopolitics and the upcoming election.

  • As a result, SMEs have begun turning to Ecommerce to sustain and grow their businesses, while gaining the ability to quickly adapt to market changes, manage costs more effectively and reach a broader, global customer base.

  • It also allows them to optimize pricing strategies and streamline supply chains.

  • However, one of the concerns in Ecommerce expansion is the rising rate of inflation and shipping costs.

  • The survey of over 1,000 DHL SME customers in the US revealed that 40% of respondents believe shipping costs are the biggest threat to their business, while 38% feel the biggest challenge is inflation.

  • Furthermore, 60% of respondents said that inflation is the top issue to follow for the rest of the year, surpassing issues like AI regulation, ESG regulation and elections.

  • On the other hand, over 53% see international growth as the biggest opportunity for their Ecommerce business.

  • This is where DHL Express’ new program finds its purpose.

Do you think this move by DHL Express will help it grow its customer base, enhance online shopping, boost customer experiences and capture a stronger logistics market share? Do you think its competitors need to make similar moves?
