Apple is reportedly preparing a major hardware refresh for early 2027, including new iPad Pro models and a redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro, as the company pushes deeper into AI-focused chips and refreshed device designs.
TL;DR
- Apple is reportedly testing four new iPad Pro models for spring 2027.
- A redesigned entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro could arrive in the first half of 2027.
- The new MacBook Pro may move quickly to Apple’s M7 chip, following an interim M6 update in 2026.
- Apple has not officially confirmed the devices yet.
Apple’s early 2027 product roadmap may be shaping up to be a busy one.
According to reports citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on several new iPad Pro models and a redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro, which could arrive in the first half of next year. The iPad Pro refresh is expected around spring 2027, while the MacBook Pro update could bring a new look to Apple’s base 14-inch Pro laptop.
The iPad Pro update is said to include four models, likely covering Wi-Fi and cellular versions across the familiar 11-inch and 13-inch sizes. The update is expected to focus mainly on internal improvements rather than a dramatic design overhaul.
That would make sense considering Apple refreshed the iPad Pro in October 2025 with the M5 chip, tandem OLED Ultra Retina XDR display, Wi-Fi 7 support, and improved cellular performance. At the time, Apple said the M5 iPad Pro delivered up to 3.5x the AI performance of the M4 model and up to 5.6x faster AI performance than the M1 version.
“iPad Pro with M5 unlocks endless possibilities,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, during the M5 iPad Pro launch.
The bigger design story may be around the MacBook Pro.
Reports suggest Apple is developing a refreshed entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, internally referred to as K104. This model could launch in the first half of 2027 and may adopt a design language closer to Apple’s rumored touchscreen MacBooks.
Those touchscreen MacBooks are expected between late 2026 and early 2027, and previous reports suggest they may feature a pill-shaped cutout at the top of the screen, similar to Dynamic Island on recent iPhones. It is not yet clear whether the entry-level redesigned MacBook Pro will also get OLED or touch support.
Before that, Apple is reportedly planning a more modest M6 version of the current 14-inch MacBook Pro in 2026, keeping the existing design. However, the company may move quickly to the M7 generation in 2027, with reports suggesting the chip family will be more focused on AI workloads.
Apple has already been positioning its latest Macs around on-device AI. In October 2025, the company launched the M5 chip for the 14-inch MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Apple Vision Pro, claiming over 4x peak GPU compute performance for AI compared to M4.
“M5 ushers in the next big leap in AI performance for Apple silicon,” said Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Technologies. “With the introduction of Neural Accelerators in the GPU, M5 delivers a huge boost to AI workloads.”

However, pricing and supply conditions may affect Apple’s launch plans. Reuters recently reported that Apple raised some MacBook and iPad prices because of rising memory and storage chip costs linked to AI data center demand. The report noted that a 1TB MacBook Pro rose from $1,699 to $1,999.
For now, the 2027 iPad Pro and MacBook Pro updates remain unconfirmed reports. Still, if accurate, they signal Apple’s next hardware cycle could be less about small spec bumps and more about bringing AI-focused silicon, refreshed laptop design, and possibly touchscreen MacBook features into the mainstream.
