SYDNEY, Australia--( BUSINESS WIRE )-- Sims Limited (ASX: SGM), a global leader in metals recycling and pioneer of circularity in the technology industry, has been named the Most Sustainable Company of 2024 in the Corporate Knights Global 100 Index recorded. This is the company's tenth and highest placement on the list.
“ We are very proud to be ranked at the top of the 2024 Global 100 list. This recognition underlines our commitment to our own sustainability and also our active role in the circular supply of metals and materials around the world for a greener future,” said Stephen Mikkelsen, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Sims Limited. “ Our goal of creating a zero-waste world to protect our environment is anchored in our business strategy and forms the lens through which we view all aspects of our business. By providing safe, sustainable products that help our customers reduce their carbon emissions and promote circular economy structures, we are advancing our targeted strategy.”
The important role that Sims Limited plays in supporting global decarbonization is demonstrated by the fact that the company recycled approximately 8 million tonnes of its own ferrous and non-ferrous metals in the 2023 financial year, supporting its customers by using recycled materials instead of raw materials to avoid around 11.6 million tons of CO 2 -e.
Sims Limited achieved excellent results against internal sustainability goals and important progress on its climate goals in fiscal year 2023 thanks to 100% renewable energy generation at its North American operations. Additionally, 2023 was the year with the fewest safety-related incidents in the company's history for the third consecutive year, further underscoring Sims Limited's leadership in sustainability.
