Overall Rating

X is expanding Grok’s role inside its social platform with two user-facing upgrades, automatic post translation and a new in-app photo editor. The translation feature is rolling out worldwide to help users read posts across languages more seamlessly, while the updated photo editor adds text, drawing, blur-based redaction, and edit-with-words AI image editing on iOS.

TL;DR

  • X says auto-translate is rolling out worldwide, powered by Grok.
  • A new photo editor brings AI editing, blur redaction, drawing, and text tools.
  • The editor is live on iOS, with Android support expected soon.

Grok-Powered Translation Goes Global

X is pushing deeper into AI-assisted discovery with automatic translation for posts, powered by Grok. According to X product head Nikita Bier, the feature is rolling out worldwide and aims to give posts in any language global reach on X.

Bier added that Grok-powered translations have improved substantially over the last couple months, signaling ongoing refinement of the company’s in-house AI capabilities.

This marks a shift from X’s earlier translation system, which required users to manually tap a translate option under posts. By making translation automatic, X is reducing friction in multilingual content consumption and positioning Grok as a core layer of the user experience rather than a standalone chatbot.

X Introduces AI Photo Editing Inside The App

Alongside translation, X has introduced a redesigned in-app photo editor focused on keeping content creation within the platform.

The new editor includes drawing tools and text overlays, features that Bier described as long-overdue. More notably, it adds edit with words, an AI-powered capability that allows users to modify images using text prompts via Grok.

The editor also includes a blur tool that enables users to redact sensitive parts of images before posting, addressing growing concerns around privacy and content control.

According to Bier, the feature is currently available on iOS, with Android support expected in the near future.

A Push Toward All-In-One Content Creation

These updates reflect a broader strategy by X to integrate AI directly into everyday workflows. Instead of relying on third-party tools for translation or image editing, users can now localize content and enhance visuals without leaving the app.

Coverage from Engadget and Digital Trends suggests this move is part of X’s effort to make its built-in tools more competitive with dedicated editing apps and rival social platforms.

By embedding Grok into both consumption and creation flows, X is gradually transforming it from an optional assistant into infrastructure that powers key platform features.

What X Has Not Disclosed Yet

Despite the rollout, X has not shared key details about the new features. The company has not disclosed how many languages are supported by the auto-translate system, nor has it provided accuracy benchmarks or performance metrics.

Similarly, there are no official figures on adoption rates or how widely the photo editor has been deployed beyond iOS.

For now, the confirmed takeaway is that X is expanding Grok’s role across the platform, enabling automatic translation and AI-powered image editing, while leaving questions around scale, accuracy, and usage unanswered.
