Wynn Resorts disclosed in a regulatory filing that an unauthorized party accessed certain information technology systems and acquired employee data, Reuters reported.

The Las Vegas-based casino operator said it identified the activity and took steps to contain the incident. The company is investigating the matter with the assistance of external cybersecurity experts.

Wynn stated that the incident involved employee data. It did not disclose how many employees were affected.

According to Reuters, a person claiming to represent the hackers said they demanded approximately 22.34 bitcoin, valued at about $1.4 million at the time. The individual also claimed the data was deleted after the company declined to pay.


Wynn did not confirm receiving a ransom demand, did not confirm any payment, and did not verify the claim that the data was deleted.

The filing did not indicate that any customer data was affected. Wynn also said there is no evidence that the incident impacted guest reservation systems or casino operations.

Wynn Resorts operates luxury hotel and casino properties in Las Vegas, Boston and Macau. The company said its investigation into the incident is ongoing.
