Discovering the best spots in your city or navigating a new one can sometimes feel like a treasure hunt. Hidden cafes, local boutiques, museums, or neighborhood events are often the gems you only find through word of mouth or a bit of online digging. TikTok is stepping in to simplify that search with its new Local Feed feature.

TL;DR

  • TikTok launches Local Feed to highlight nearby creators, businesses, and events.
  • 7.5M U.S. small businesses already reach customers through TikTok.
  • 84% of small business users say TikTok helped their business grow.

The Local Feed, appearing as a dedicated tab on TikTok’s home screen is designed to connect users with content, businesses, and experiences nearby. Whether you’re exploring your own neighborhood or visiting somewhere for the first time, it surfaces posts about restaurants, shops, events, and local creators tailored to your location, the content’s topic, and its recency. Essentially, it’s designed to help users “live like a local.”

Privacy and safety remain central. The Local Feed won’t show posts from accounts under 18, private profiles, or content shared only with friends. For small businesses, it offers another avenue to reach potential customers.

TikTok has already transformed how U.S. small businesses are discovered, helping 7.5 million businesses reach audiences far beyond their local streets.

According to a 2025 Oxford Economics report, these businesses now support over 28 million workers. The Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council notes that 84% of TikTok small business users say the platform helped grow their business, 75% say it helped them reach customers beyond their local area, and 74% say it helped them connect with their community.

Creators like @janzincripe say features like the Local Feed “further bridge the digital-physical divide, turning online discovery into real-world foot traffic and sales for brick-and-mortar stores across the country.”

To make the experience more relevant, TikTok is introducing optional precise location sharing. It’s off by default, only available to users 18+, and only active when the app is in use. Users can enable it anytime, with clear on-screen indicators showing when location is being accessed.

With the Local Feed, TikTok is creating a bridge between the digital and real world. By connecting users to local creators, businesses, and events, the platform makes it easier to see what’s happening nearby and feel more at home, whether exploring familiar streets or discovering a new city.
