In a world that’s connected by wireless technology that powers various personal and professional facets, it remains crucial for government and defense agencies to not just remain connected but also to do so with strong and capable internet services and infrastructure.

As a result, government and defense agencies partner up with technology companies and network service providers to gain access to vital IT infrastructure, equipment and connectivity services.

At the receiving end of one such move is T-Mobile, which has been selected by the United States Department of the Navy to provide its services.

So, what did T-Mobile announce about offering services to the United States Navy? Let’s explore!

What Is T-Mobile Doing For The U.S. Navy?

  • As per a news release published on its website, T-Mobile announced that it has been chosen as a wireless technology provider by the United States Navy (U.S. Navy).

  • The move is a part of the $2.67 billion Spiral 4 contract and follows the previous Spiral 3 contract worth $994 million in 2017.

  • As per the new contract, all Departments of Defense agencies will be able to place orders for wireless services and equipment from T-Mobile over the next 10 years.

  • The contract brings in solutions for voice, data, fixed wireless solutions, Internet of Things and mobility management.

  • Additionally, they will be able to leverage T-Mobile’s leading 5G network for state-of-the-art wireless solutions.

  • The upgraded contract comes as connectivity and networking solutions witness changes in industry standards and technological advancements.

  • “It will help ensure robust and reliable connectivity for government activities — from mission critical communications to network solutions that serve military personnel and federal civilian agencies.”

  • Since participating in the previous Spiral 3 contract, T-Mobile has increased its range of services for government operations.

  • This includes launching 5G Advanced Network Solutions that span “a comprehensive portfolio of cutting-edge 5G solutions and applications such as 5G private and hybrid networks” as well as Government Internet.

What Is T-Mobile Government Internet?

  • T-Mobile Government Internet offers 5G high-speed, fixed wireless solutions with unlimited data, priced at $45 per month.

  • It offers a fast, flexible, secure and reliable solution with fast and easy setup, optional static IP address, dedicated 24/7 expert support and optional content filtering.

  • In addition to enabling real-time collaboration, the solution is scalable and offers small and rural coverage.

  • The solution can function as the main internet connection or as unlimited backup.

  • In the future, government agencies could also leverage T-Mobile's partnership with SpaceX, which recently launched the first set of direct to cell Starlink satellites and aims to provide groundbreaking, near-universal connectivity.

  • Furthermore, T-Mobile recently made a move to boost its infrastructure by agreeing to acquire UScellular’s wireless operations in a $4.4 billion deal.

What Did T-Mobile Say?

  • David Bezzant, Vice President of Sales, T-Mobile for Government, said, “The Spiral 4 contract award is a testament to T-Mobile’s leading 5G network and to our focus on building solutions that meet the critical needs of our government customers.”

  • [Contd.] “With a cutting-edge product portfolio, a proven track record and a clear vision for the future, we’re ready to take government innovation to the next level. It's an honor to serve those who serve this Nation.”
