Shopify Edition 25: New AI Store Builder, Image Maker, Agents, Tools And More

In the past few days, numerous businesses have conducted flagship events in which they announce their latest products and new services, as well as their current standing and future plans.
This includes industry giants Microsoft—with Build—and Google—with I/O—where both focused majorly on artificial intelligence (AI) product offerings.
Joining the list was Shopify, which held its biannual product showcase event—Summer '25 Edition. Here, too, AI played a central role in the new products and services announced by the online retailer.
All-in-all, Shopify dropped over 150 upgrades to help its customers boost creativity and build better experiences.
Horizon
Horizon is a tool that allows users to create and customize their storefronts using 10 presets that can be customized, an AI block generator that allows users to describe what they need using text prompts, theme blocks that let users rearrange their layout effortlessly, and more than 30 content block options.
Essentially, it serves as a theme and design foundation that enables merchants using Shopify to build and customize their store as they like—as long as it fits within the stipulated presets and blocks format.
Features include custom names for blocks and sections, one-click text editing, right-click for all shortcuts, a richer predictive search, categories for blocks and sections, more interactive product cards, hover-to-preview in block picker, and more.
Of course, Shopify has taken care of customers who are looking for more customization options.
AI Store Builder
Shopify’s AI Store Builder enables users to build their stores from scratch—whether it’s their first shop or 50th campaign—and get a finished product, without having to code at all.
The catch isn’t just the customization capabilities, but how it’s done.
All users have to do is describe what they want (in text), and the platform’s powerful AI will generate custom designs. The tool generates three store layouts complete with images and relevant text, allowing users to save time, effort, and money.
“Merchants can now translate a vision they have for their online store into something real much faster and without needing to code. As with everything we do here, we want to make the complicated easy so entrepreneurs can focus on what truly matters: growing their business and connecting with their customers," said Vanessa Lee, Shopify’s VP of product.
Sidekick
Shopify’s AI commerce assistant, Sidekick, also received updates. This tool can now solve more complex problems when asked questions, as it connects more store data and conducts deeper analysis with multi-step reasoning to unlock key insights and provide step-by-step solutions.
It also comes with new voice chat and screen share capabilities that allow users to talk through issues they’re facing or information they’re looking for in real time.
Furthermore, Sidekick now supports 20 languages (available in all supported admin languages) and can instantly generate images for free using a few keywords.
Additionally, Shopify is bringing a wide range of agents to its platform.
Catalog enables partners to build AI shopping agents that can discover and display merchant products to millions of potential customers using conversational. Knowledge Base App provides insight into how a brand is represented in AI shopping chats, as well as generates appropriate FAQs. Storefront MCP lets developers build AI agents that can offer customized product recommendations, answer questions, create carts, and guide shoppers to checkout.
Merchants can also contact Shopify to build their own shopping agents.
Shopify POS
Shopify upgraded its POS app, bringing users faster and smoother navigation, smarter search, adaptable cart, and more.
It remains Shopify’s most customizable POS yet, where merchants can brand customer display screens with their logo, colors, and media (including the idle screen, cart, and receipt selection); process mixed-fulfillment orders in a single transaction, allowing customers to take items home while shipping others.
Merchants can engage in selling from multiple retail entities; discounts work with draft orders; issue, accept, and refund to store credit directly; grow SMS marketing; customize payment options per POS device; and other features.
Polaris
Shopify also introduced the new Polaris, which is a unified UI toolkit that’s now built on web components and works seamlessly across all Shopify surfaces, including Admin, Checkout, and Customer Accounts.
The new version is smaller and runs faster than its predecessor, and allows developers to create consistent experiences across all Shopify touchpoints using familiar, HTML-like components with unified APIs and properties.
It helps bring app experiences to multiple Shopify surfaces, expands reach, and improves overall performance.
Shop App
Shop App is now more personalized.
The feed has swapped the static scrolling experience for a dynamic one, making product discovery more fun and tailored to buyers. It comes with real-time recommendations that adapt as shoppers scroll. It also allows them to build, share, and collaborate on collections.
Ahead of this, merchants can now sell from multiple entities in one store—no matter where in the world they are—all managed under one admin. This expands to managing finances, where the app helps merchants manage multi-currency payouts with lower financial exchange fees.
As Shopify Payments expands to more countries, which includes Mexico and 15 new markets in Europe, it brings European merchants more local payment methods, while also allowing merchants to accept more than 130 currencies and settle transactions in up to 8 currencies.
B2B
Shopify Edition ‘25 also brought in some B2B improvements.
Platform users can now create multiple B2B markets, each with their own unique catalogs, currency, and storefront theme customizations. They can also set minimum and maximum order value requirements for all customers, or only B2B customers.
This builds on four previously announced B2B partner solutions spanning storefront solutions, back-office integrations, and Shopify apps.
An AAXIS Streamline integration enables organizations to launch a digital commerce channel in 8-12 weeks. Teifi Parts Accelerator simplifies parts product discovery and drives higher conversions for OEM and aftermarket parts providers. The TMG Fuse app streamlines data flow, commerce migration, and integration for SAP customers into the Shopify platform. The Uncap Accelerator enables manufacturers and distributors to create highly customized ordering portals, delivering exceptional customer and sales experiences with low total cost of ownership.
“Everything is designed for you to stress less and shine more. From setting up the perfect theme to easily transacting dollars (or euros, or yen), Shopify is creative, fast, and never in your way," said Shopify.
What do you think about Shopify’s latest updates? Which ones are you most excited to try out?
