Semrush Acquires Third Door Media & Its Search Engine Land, MarTech & Other Brands

In the ever-expanding digital media world, brands are fighting for visibility across social media and search engine results.

The idea is to provide relevant content blended with effective keywords that allow publishers to feature on the first page of search engines such as Google.

This included Semrush, a leading online visibility management platform, which recently came out with exciting news that’s set to boost its offering and capabilities for its rapidly growing customer base.

Through a news release published on its website, Semrush announced on October 16, 2024, that it has acquired Third Door Media, a significant player in the digital marketing and SEO landscape.

Third Door Media is the parent company of digital media brands such as Search Engine Land, MarTech, Search Marketing Expo and Digital Marketing Depot.

This strategic move comes as Semrush looks to enhance its resources, insights and educational offerings for marketers while maintaining the editorial independence of its acquired brands.

The platform will continue to cover breaking news and trends and provide actionable insights for marketers.

As a result, Third Door Media’s portfolio of brands will continue operating as standalone brands and many of its leaders will retain their positions.

This means that the existing editorial team will remain in place, ensuring continuity in content and coverage.


What Does Third Door Media’s Acquisition Bring Semrush?


Semrush will obtain Third Door Media’s diverse content platforms, allowing its growing customer base to access industry-leading marketing tools, education and top-tier training from industry experts and practitioners.

Third Door Media’s portfolio of brands includes Search Engine Land, which has built a reputation for delivering timely and reliable information to the search marketing community and has become a leading source for news and insights in search marketing. 

Its MarTech.org website has grown in popularity over the last few years as a prominent platform focused on marketing technology.

Third Door’s Search Marketing Expo AKA SMX is a prominent conference series for search marketers.

Its Digital Marketing Depot provides marketers and businesses with a resource for digital marketing insights. 

The combined resources of Semrush and Search Engine Land are expected to bolster support for the search marketing community.


How Will Semrush’s Acquisition Of Third Door Media Affect Current Employees And Planned Events?


As per a news release published on Search Engine Land’s website, this includes Search Engine Land’s Editorial Director, Danny Goodwin, retaining his position, as well as Anu Adegbola as Paid Media Editor and Barry Schwartz, who “will continue tirelessly reporting on the latest search news.”

Furthermore, Search Engine Land will continue its mission to provide independent news and insights on search marketing.

Ahead of this, upcoming events such as SMX Next that are scheduled to be held on November 13 and 14 will remain on track, with more announcements expected regarding future conferences.
