Microsoft & Lumen Unite To Push AI & Digital Transformation
Updated on Thu, Jul 25, 2024
The advancements made in these two technologies have companies restructuring their workforce, business processes and offerings, as they engage in digital transformation across their organization.
On the other hand, the increased adoption and reliance on AI has made it vital for AI companies to boost their infrastructure capabilities to ensure quality services of computational power.
This is what Microsoft and Lumen Technologies are looking to achieve from their latest partnership.
So, let’s explore what Microsoft and Lumen Technologies are partnering up to achieve!
What Will The Microsoft And Lumen Partnership Bring Microsoft?
-
Through a news release published on Microsoft’s and Lumen Technologies’ websites the two companies announced a mutually beneficial partnership aimed at powering the future of AI and driving digital transformations.
-
This collaboration expands upon a series of previous partnerships between the two companies.
-
As per the partnership, Microsoft will use Lumen’s AI-ready infrastructure to strengthen the connectivity capabilities between Microsoft’s datacenters, in a bid to cater to the growing demand of its datacenters to power AI applications.
-
This will be done by leveraging Lumen's Private Connectivity Fabric, which is a custom network offering dedicated access to existing fiber in the Lumen network, the installation of new fiber on existing and new routes and the use of Lumen's new digital services
-
Microsoft will be able to provide its customers with the network capacity, performance, stability and speed that they need as data demands increase.
-
This becomes important as the datacenters are crucial for the development of AI applications as they facilitate the use of high computing capabilities.
-
Furthermore, Microsoft is leading the way by offering tools and platforms such as Azure OpenAI Service, Microsoft Copilot and more.
What Will The Microsoft And Lumen Partnership Bring Lumen?
-
On the other side of the deal, Lumen is undergoing an enterprise-wide transformation to simplify and optimize its operations.
-
The partnership will allow Lumen to use Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure and AI technology to improve its products, offerings and customer service, as well as create new solutions for its global customer base.
-
This will also help the company reduce its overall technology costs and remove legacy systems and silos.
-
While Lumen migrates and modernizes its workloads to Microsoft Azure, it will use Microsoft’s Entra solutions to enhance its security and access management while also partnering with Microsoft to create and deliver new telecom industry-specific solutions.
-
This move alone is expected to boost Lumen’s cash flow by over $20 million over the next 12 months.
What Did Microsoft And Lumen Technologies Executives Say?
-
Erin Chapple, Corporate VP of Azure Core Product and Design, Microsoft, said, “Lumen has the network infrastructure and the digital capabilities needed to help support Azure’s mission in creating reliable and scalable platform that supports the breadth of customer workloads—from general purpose and mission-critical, to cloud-native, high-performance computing, and AI, plus what’s on the horizon.”
-
[Contd.] “Our work with Lumen is emblematic of our investments in our own cloud infrastructure, which delivers for today and for the long term to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.”
-
Chapple added, “Azure’s advanced global infrastructure helps customers and partners quickly adapt to changing economic conditions, accelerate technology innovation, and transform their business with AI.”
-
[Contd.] “We are committed to partnering with Lumen to help deliver on their transformation goals, reimagine cloud connectivity and AI synergies, drive business growth, and help customers achieve more.”
-
Kate Johnson, President and CEO, Lumen Technologies, said, “We are preparing for a future where AI is the driving force of innovation and growth, and where a powerful network infrastructure is essential for companies to thrive.”
-
“Microsoft has an ambitious vision for AI and this level of innovation requires a network that can make it reality. Lumen’s expansive network meets this challenge, with unique routes, unmatched coverage, and a digital platform built to give companies the flexibility, access and security they need to create an AI-enabled world.”
