Meta’s Mega Plan To Power WhatsApp And Messenger With AI!
Updated on Wed, Mar 1, 2023
Yes, you read it right - Meta, the parent company of social media giants Facebook, WhatsApp and Messenger, plans to integrate generative AI into its services used by billions of users. Zuckerberg wrote, “We’re creating a new top-level product group at Meta focused on generative AI to turbocharge our work in this area.” According to a report, Zuckerberg said initially, the team will focus on building creative tools but its long-term objective is to develop “AI personas that can help people in a variety of ways.”
Moreover, Meta is also planning to enable users with AI-aided filters, ad formats and “video and multi-modal experiences" on Instagram. As per Axios, former Apple executive Ahmad Al-Dahle will head the project and the team will report to Chief Product Officer Chris Cox.
On the other hand, Mark Zuckerberg has 'cautioned' that the company will have to do foundational work before sharing these “futuristic” experiences with users. Besides, Meta’s big bet on the metaverse hasn’t paid off yet and the company is looking for new ways to earn revenue. Last week, it introduced the Meta ‘Verified’ subscription program but whether it will drive revenue is still a mystery. So, this move of experimenting with AI-powered 'chat' on WhatsApp and Messenger comes as no surprise as Meta continues to explore new avenues for revenue generation.
It’s been a while since generative AI tools have emerged but the technology grabbed stardom with OpenAI’s ChatGPT bot. To begin with, Microsoft has already churned that AI flavor into Bing search and Edge browser, while Google is experimenting with a rival product called Bard. Besides, Facebook-rival Snapchat also launched a custom-trained chatbot for its paid subscribers this month. It’s clear that AI-powered tools are the way forward. Now, as Meta joins the race to integrate AI, it will be exciting to see whether this will help the company beat the competition.
Well, do you think this AI-powered ‘power move’ will help Meta to beat the competition? Are you excited about this refreshing way of ‘chatting’ powered by AI? Let's 'chat' about it in the comment section below.
