Remember the 2010 release Tron: Legacy? This movie is based in a virtual world inside a computer system and follows the adventures of a computer programmer who is digitized and transported into the digital realm. The protagonist – Sam Flynn – explores the virtual landscape in search for answers. Imagine if you could do the same!

Meta, the owner of Facebook, has launched a captivating virtual reality (VR) subscription service – Meta Quest Plus. According to the report, this move comes in Meta's quest to make this division of its business profitable. The company aims to entice paying users by offering them monthly access to exciting new virtual reality games.

Are you interested to know why Meta is diving into the virtual reality space?

Well, the answer lies in Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg's interview from 2021.

  • So, back in 2021, Mark Zuckerberg unveiled his grand vision of building a "metaverse" – an immersive online world where people can work, play games and communicate in a virtual environment using VR headsets.
  • He expressed his aspiration for Meta to be recognized as a metaverse company, emphasizing the company's commitment to this futuristic concept. "Over time, I hope that we are seen as a metaverse company and I want to anchor our work and our identity on what we're building towards," Mr. Zuckerberg said.
  • The report says this move can also be Meta's way to cope with the significant $4 billion loss Meta's VR unit faced during the first quarter of the year.
  • Besides, Meta's new adventure comes to keep up with the competition, which includes tech giant Apple. Meta's competitor Apple recently revealed its highly anticipated mixed-reality headset, further intensifying the competition in the VR market.

Now let's see how Meta strives to turn its vision into a reality.

  • Well, according to the report, Meta's focus on the metaverse is channelized from its belief in the power of artificial intelligence (AI). In fact, according to a report, Mark has insisted that Meta was “no longer behind in building our AI infrastructure.”
  • Seems like with Meta's VR subscription service and its dedication to the metaverse, the company is taking bold steps to solidify its position in the virtual reality market.

Nevertheless, Meta is not alone in this race! Apple's recent launch of the Vision Pro mixed reality headset signaled its serious entry into the VR space.

Would you spend $7.99 monthly to subscribe to Meta's virtual service? Do you think this move will help Meta turn its vision into a reality? Our comments section awaits your thoughts!
