Is Meta Getting Into A Face-off With Twitter?
Updated on Wed, Jul 5, 2023
Now, brace yourself as Meta is planning to launch a new app, Threads – supposedly as a rival to Twitter!
According to the report from 4th July, Meta is bringing you "Threads," the latest contender in the social media arena. This app, set to launch on Thursday, aims to give tough competition to Twitter. Available for pre-order on the Apple App Store, Threads will be seamlessly linked to Instagram, creating a powerful combination of platforms.
Now, the question arises how is Threads similar to Twitter?
- Well, the report says Threads aims to create a space where users can engage with the things that matter most to them. The app's interface, as seen in leaked screenshots, bears a striking resemblance to Twitter, making it instantly familiar to potential users.
- Described as a "text-based conversation app" by Meta, Threads appears to sport a dashboard reminiscent of Twitter. With a similar layout and feel, it promises users an engaging and familiar experience.
- Naturally, being a Meta app, Threads will collect data from users' devices, including location data, purchase history and browsing habits. While similar Twitter-esque apps like Donald Trump's Truth Social and Mastodon have emerged in recent years, Threads may be a real competitor to Twitter.
Let’s see why Meta exactly wants to compete with Twitter?
- To begin with, just last month, the two tech titans (Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter owner, Elon Musk) made headlines when they agreed to a physical fight. Read the full story here: Musk Vs Mark: A Digital And Physical Battle For Supremacy!
- Meanwhile, Twitter has its own tricks up its sleeve. TweetDeck, the beloved user dashboard, is set to go behind a paywall in just 30 days. This move aligns with Musk's efforts to encourage users to subscribe to Twitter Blue, the platform's subscription service.
- The report states that Meta is launching Threads to compete with Twitter. Threads will be integrated into the Instagram platform, instantly connecting it to millions of existing accounts. It sets Threads apart from other would-be Twitter rivals, often struggling to gain traction.
Nevertheless, Musk, who never shies away from a verbal duel, couldn't resist swiping at Zuckerberg, sarcastically remarking, "Thank goodness they're so sanely run," in response to a tweet about Threads.
Now, only time will tell who will reign the social media space!
Do you think Threads will succeed in stealing the spotlight and winning over the hearts of social media bees? Our comments section awaits your thoughts.
