Overall Rating
The way people browse the internet is starting to look a little different. Instead of jumping between tabs, reading pages, and then going back to search, Google is trying to bring everything into one connected view powered by AI.

TL;DR

  • Google adds side-by-side AI Mode in Chrome for browsing with AI chat and web pages together.
  • Users can open links with AI Mode and ask follow-up questions without switching tabs.
  • Chrome now lets users search across multiple open tabs, files, and pages in one query.

TechDogs - "An Image Showing AI Mode In Google Chrome!"
Google has introduced updates to its AI Mode in Chrome that allow users to explore the web while chatting with AI at the same time. On desktop, when a user clicks a link inside AI Mode, the webpage now opens side-by-side with the AI chat instead of replacing it. This lets both the page and the conversation stay visible together.

The company says this setup is designed to help users stay focused while researching or comparing information. For example, someone looking for a coffee maker can ask AI Mode for suggestions, open a product page, and then continue asking questions like how easy it is to clean, without losing context.

“Our early testers loved that they didn’t have to constantly switch tabs to get help with a comprehensive article or a long video,” Google explained in a blog post. “And they found that having both Search and the web side-by-side helped them stay focused on their tasks while exploring useful web pages.”

Along with this, Google is also adding a way to search across tabs already open in Chrome. Users can tap a new “plus” option in the search box on the New Tab page or inside AI Mode and include recent tabs in their search.

This means different sources like open webpages, images, or files can be combined into a single query. For instance, a user researching hiking trails can pull in multiple tabs and ask for similar trails in another location. A student can also combine lecture notes and slides to get clearer explanations or examples.

The update is currently rolling out in the United States, with Google planning to expand it to more regions later.
