Especially considering the introduction of new players (read more), existing ones expanding (read more) and partnerships (read more). Numerous initiatives have been aimed at improving production methods (read more), software (read more), battery enhancements (read more) and more.
Industry leader, Tesla, has also seen some big moments, especially with its competitors adopting its technology (read more). Not to forget government initiatives across the US (read more), EU (read more) and even alternative methods (read more).
However, EV innovation extends beyond just mere cars. Yes, the last few years have seen major updates for aircraft and luxury yachts and flying vehicles or eVTOLs (read more).
Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing aircraft, or eVTOLs, comprise of aircraft that use electric power to hover, take off and land vertically.
Adding to the excitement surrounding this modern marvel, Doroni Aerospace is here with some big news! What is it? Let’s explore!
What Did Doroni Announce?
- Through a LinkedIn post, Doroni Aerospace announced that the company received an official Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Special Airworthiness Certification, particularly for the Doroni H1.
- With a small size, the aircraft is built to fit in a two-car garage making it feasible for consumer use.
- The H1 is a two-seater aircraft that can accommodate a pilot and a passenger. However, it doesn’t require a pilot’s license if one is flying it from home (personal use). Ahead of this, it’s a semi-autonomous aircraft, which means it can be flown with limited flight training.
- Essentially, once it’s out of the garage, “three-clicks-of-a-button” and the driver can begin flying.
- Having completed 70 successful manned flights, Doroni’s H1 is set to be launched in 2025. Additionally, the company believes its aircraft will be unveiled in the next few months and will be priced between $300,000 and $400,000.
What Are The Technical Details Of The Doroni H1?
- According to the company’s website, the Doroni H1, AKA Hummingbird, comes with a top speed of 140 mph (225 km/h) or a cruising speed of 100 mph (160 km/h) and offers a range of 60 miles (100 km).
- Furthermore, with a charging time of 15-20 min (from 20% to 80%), the aircraft has a total weight of 1850 lbs (839 kg) and can carry a payload of 500 lbs (227kg). Its dimensions are approximately 23 ft (7 m) in length, 15 ft (4.5) in width and 5.5 ft (1.67 m) in height.
- As for safety, the “H1 combines multiple safety redundancies to ensure the safest flight possible.”
- This includes emergency airbags, increased lift and stability, an energy-dissipating body, energy-dissipating landing gear, a whole airframe ballistic parachute, multiple redundancy batteries, ten independent propulsion systems and patented ducted propellers.
What Did Doroni Say?
- In an interview speaking about the launch of the Doroni H1, Doron Merdinger, CEO of Doroni Aerospace, said, “For those of us who are geeks and are passionate about creating the world, we knew flying cars were coming … The biggest question was: ‘how would they work’?”
- Regarding the FAA Certification, Merdinger said, “Receiving the FAA’s Airworthiness Certification is not just a milestone for our company, but a leap forward for the entire field of personal air mobility. The Doroni H1 is poised to redefine urban transportation, offering an eco-friendly, efficient, and exhilarating way to travel. This achievement brings us one step closer to our vision of making personal flight accessible to everyone.”
While Merdinger believes eVTOLs could primarily be used as air taxis or for ride sharing, he’s aiming for a different market. The company has even received 370 pre-orders. As per the company, it expects to build around 120-125 units by 2025 or 2026, eventually scaling up to 2,500 aircraft annually.
Do you think Doroni is set to become a household name soon? Do you think competitors will raise efforts, considering the eVTOL industry is predicted to reach a valuation of $1 trillion by 2040?
