Here's all you need to know about the story, as covered by CNBC.
Digital marketing professional Shane Rasnak began experimenting with ChatGPT after it made news for its ability to appear human while responding to consumer inquiries.
Rasnak foresaw the business-altering potential of generative AI. Jobs that would have taken him 30 minutes to an hour are now 15-minute assignments, according to Rasnak. This includes coming up with headlines for Facebook advertising and brief blurbs of ad material.
He continued, "And that's just the beginning."
According to Rasnak, generative AI will have a similar effect on the digital advertising sector as the introduction of social media. Generative AI enables advertisers to produce customized messaging and images while developing and refining campaigns, a feature made possible by social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
That "just completely changes everything," as Rasnak put it, "in terms of how we market our work, the output, the quality and the volume that they are able to put out, and how personalized you can get as a result of that."
The three largest online advertising firms Meta, Alphabet and Amazon are all placing their futures on generative AI. Each has lately released a product or detailed plans to produce a variety of tools to facilitate the creation of texts, photos, and videos for businesses to use on their individual platforms.
Hold your digital horses!
There are a couple of things you should know before diving headfirst into this digital change, as CNBC reports.
-
Seismic impact on targeted online advertising.
Professionals in the advertising industry told CNBC that generative AI is the natural progression of targeted web advertising.
"This is going to have a seismic impact on digital advertising," said Cristina Lawrence, executive vice president of consumer and content experience at Razorfish.
In May, Meta introduced its AI Sandbox testing package, making it simpler for businesses to employ generative AI tools for purposes like picture creation and ad copy experimentation. Additionally, enhancements were made to the company's Meta Advantage service, which makes use of machine learning to enhance the performance of advertisements displayed across its numerous social applications. -
Personalization at scale
Experts believe that Facebook users in San Francisco will be given advertisements depicting cyclists cruising across the Golden Gate Bridge, while viewers in Utah will be shown advertisements depicting cyclists navigating arid gorges.
With it, "you can be using it for that sort of personalization at scale," Lawrence added. -
Potential legal issues
A Bloomberg report points to a possible problem with adopting generative AI is that it is fueled by models that are trained on data that is "scraped from the internet," as analyst Jay Pattisall of Forrester put it. It has been announced that the massive amounts of data available on Reddit, Twitter, and Stack Overflow would be made available to AI developers for a fee.
So, what's your take on the generative AI boom that has the power to revolutionize online advertising forever? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
